Well my husband ( who was a Freo supporter till he came to the Grand Final and Family Day this year and is now a Saint) reckons we have done well with him. Hopefully he will play as well as he has in the past and we will benefit.

Peake was a seriously good player during 2006 when the Dockers were flying. Long, scorching runs and goals from outside 50.

Whether he can get into the 22 remains to be seen but he has proven history that when he is in a good team he can be damaging.

Reckon he will be pinching himself going from a rabble of a team to one on verge of success... Good on him.

True.

Bold it is.

There's plenty of blokes who need to be surrounded by good players to show their true ability. There probably a few already in our side!

We've got enough blokes who are consistently very good, adding a few that are pure 'finishers' is just cream on the top.

Research his conversion ratio and get back to me. My numbers tell me he is a goal front choker.

Still, I reckon the boss wanted him for his work other than in front of goal.

But, Wally Lovett was acquired precisely for his work in approaching goal.

Horses for courses.

Although I can't stomach the Dockers, living in Perth I tend to watch quite a lot of their games (usually it's to to revel in watching them repeatedly find ways to drag defeat out of the jaws of victory). Peake is very fast but has a habit of stopping in his tracks and backtracking in a big circle and finding himself being run down from all directions. We will need to knock that habit out of him.

We will correct his bad habits simply by offering him better options so that he doesnt have to turn around.

Its funny how it keeps getting touted that he finished 3rd in freo's 2006 B&F...

http://www.saints.com.au/season2009/new ... fault.aspx

Player honours: 3rd Best and Fairest 2006; International Rules Series 2006
when he wasn't even in top 10 in 2006....

the real freo top 10 in 2006 were:-

1st Place: Matthew Pavlich (34 Votes)

2nd Place: Peter Bell & Michael Johnson (31 Votes)

4th Place: Shane Parker (28 Votes)

5th Place: Josh Carr & Aaron Sandilands (25 Votes)

7th Place: Jeff Farmer (23 Votes)

8th Place: David Mundy & Steven Dodd (21 Votes)

10th Place: Luke McPharlin & Matthew Carr (20 votes)

Realistically if Freo offloaded him for a crap draft pick then why would we expect him to be any good?

i think he was the 3rd highest brownlow vote getter for freo in 2006.
i don't rate him, and think it's a bit of a gamble - but ross has shown a pretty darn good ability to recognise underperfomers who fit well into our game plan.

Peake has been dragging his feet at a crappy club that is poorly Coached and structured.

He will be very handy at St.Kilda.

Brett Peake has more career brownlow votes than Lovett for what it's worth

True... and Lovett came on the scene in 2005 (as a mature age rookie) while Peake's been in the system since 2003.

Again... not knocking Peake down. He can be a very good player for us...

Hope it goes well for him. There's a history of guys leaving the Dockers and doing MUCH better at another club (Adam McPhee, James Clement, and Paul Medhurst, being the first to mind), so hopefully that trend will continue with Brett. I don't think anyone's expecting him to win the Brownlow next year, so we'll be doing well if he plays his part, when required, like if Gram, Raph or Ray get an injury. It seems our coaching staff don't rate this draft highly at all, so they obviously reckon he's better than we'd be likely to get with pick 48 in the draft.
