St Kilda looks to grow from within

Post: # 837420Post Moccha »

ST KILDA is unlikely to be a big player in next week's trade negotiations, having tinkered with its list to the point that it reached a grand final. But that could change upon any decision by Luke Ball to move on.

Look, it would be great if we could get something for Fish, but I doubt he'd have much if any value.

If Milne remains, question is how to handle him come finals time next year.....do we face reality and just drop him for September???

Think Bally will stay and take a pay cut.
Also think no one will be interested in L.Fisher and certainly no trade value.
I'm happy to keep the players we've got and play no role in Club Trades.
Will be interesting to see what Lyon does this year.
With Armitage, Maguire, Steven, Lynch, Heyne, Mc Evoy, Stanley coming through the ranks the improvement from within may be all we need for 2010.

Fair article, but erroneously states that X is 24. He is 26 and Raph is 24.

Interesting that both Maguire and X are related to Benjamin Button !!

Would we have been in the GF without the contributions this year of our 'foreign legion'?

As the article infers, our improvement will come from within ie: Armitage, Steven, McEvoy, Lynch, Stanley, Heyne, etc.

There is also no reason that established and semi-established senior players cannot improve in the same manner that Gilbert, Jones, Montagna and McQualter developed in 2009.

There is a huge amount to like when you have a close look at our list. While we do have a few spots that are vacant or need some more depth (3rd fwd/developing tall forward, pacy mid, tall defender).

I suppose it all comes down to what Bally wants to do. If he chases the cash then we may be able to target one of these 'weaker' areas.

could bally be part of a trade with carlton for fevola in your opinion AE? i mean what if it were that goose wanted to actually get a game?
could it come to pass that the club would be prepared to do away with an experienced mid and an extra defender for a qualified forward?
if carlton went cold on fevola what would our position be in being able to bundle up a few players on our extended list for a third tall?

I would think that Carlton have no desire for Ball? They have already made their play by taking Brock McLean, a similar type of player (inside mid).

All players helped us get to the grand final this year as it was a team effort, but a couple of players didn't produce the goods in the forward line on the biggest day and that was it.

bit hard for me to take you up on that MC but we'll see.

he loves the club and the club loves him but same with banger and look what happened with banger. banger would have him and his hardness at visy in a heartbeat if they let go of fevola.

i reckon carlton will eventually move to have murphy and gibbs at half-forward anyway with some tougher bodies through the midfield. their position is that if they lose a forward they will need a forward unless warnock comes back and kreuzer plays key position.

so people honestly think that the club wants to get rid of luke ball???

and by the looks of it some people want him gone.

we do not need fevola, we have kids in the wings waiting.
we dont need a drunken idiot who is hardly team orientated in our forward line.
carlton wont get rid of him anyway, he copped a 10 grand fine for his latest antics after the club said that the next time he would be out the door.

they get rid of him and who goes forward?
who is going to replace the coleman medalist??

you know that i think like that aswell, but yeah, it MAY happen.
it's not that the club wants to get rid of ball (in fact they do not) it's just that we have a hugely extended list of very talented players (and ball is one).
i love luke ball.
even though fevola is a d**khead he is a d**khead who can play footy.
if they are going to get rid of him they may develop kreuzer.

My guess....Carlton will keep Fev, they will suspend him for a few games at the start of 2010 like Geelong did with Stevie J, and not allow him to go on TFS next year.

correct. they're shopping him around to scare him a bit, but they don't actually want to let him go.

Well nobody is in the market for a key forward who is Fevola's age. Clubs are much more calculated in who they trade in and out and the Fevola's chances are dependant on the age of the core potential premiership winning group.

Reincarnated believes he is potentially only really worthwhile to us, dogs cats and hawks. So really just the dogs as the remaining three sides have either a quality working forward set up or quality key forwards.

He will stay due to a mixture of his age, other teams lists and other teams salary caps

I would take Russell Robertson over fev anyday he would be on minimum wage, fits the mid size forward role if he doesnt fire he cost us nothing.

At his best and with good delivery RR would be a better fit.

Nathan Brown is another I have heard we should grab that has done nothing since injury.
