Sweeping the season series

Post: # 820376Post ThePunter »

For those who are statistically minded...

Finals played between two teams who played twice previously during the season, with one team winning both games (in the 2000s)

2009 Brisbane defeated Carlton (Carlton had won both games during the season)
2008 St Kilda defeated Collingwood (Collingwood had won both games during the season)
Western Bulldogs defeated Sydney (Bulldogs had won both games during the season)
2007 Collingwood defeated Sydney (Collingwood had won both games during the season)
2006 West Coast defeated Adelaide (West Coast had won both games during the season)
2005 Adelaide defeated Port Adelaide (Adelaide had won both games during the season)
Geelong defeated Melbourne (Melbourne had won both games during the season)
2003 Brisbane defeated Collingwood (Grand Final) (Collingwood had won both games during the season)
Brisbane defeated Sydney (Sydney had won both games during the season)
Adelaide defeated West Coast (Adelaide had won both games during the season)
2001 Carlton defeated Adelaide (Adelaide had won both games during the season)
2000 Essendon defeated Carlton (Essendon had won both games during the season)
Carlton defeated Brisbane (Carlton had won both games during the season)
Brisbane defeated Western Bulldogs (Brisbane had won both games during the season)

Record for the team winning both encounters during the season: 8 wins, 5 losses

I wonder how convincing the two H&A wins were for these teams...I remember it was only a matter of time before we smashed Collingwood last year. Carlton lost their game to Brissy through their own stupidity. Collingwood beat Sydney by 1 point in 2007, etc, etc. Can't read much into what you see on paper...Bulldogs have been pretty convincingly pumped by us on both occasions, I feel safe.
