Saints v Doggies preliminary final discussion

Post: # 818023Post SainterK »

In spite of people arguing to the contrary, they really played off against Collingwood with the preference of facing Geelong instead of us. It was very evident in their reaction, and we need to use this fear to our advantage 8-)

Thoughts?

Rubbish

It was a really low key game tonight.

Their intensity was lacking.
Their skills were lacking.

If they play like that next week we will destroy them.
Both Collingwood or Adelaide would be tougher opponents.

We are definitely on the right side of the draw !

Did lack the finals atmosphere of a few of lasts weeks games. The lions let it turn into the bulldogs athletics carnival, which is what you must avoid doing when playing the dogs.

Pressure, Pressure, Pressure. Make them fumble, handball, kick under intense pressure, turn over and run hard the other way.

I'm confident, but until the final siren sounds, I'm taking nothing for granted. They're a good side and, even if they looked ordinary tonight, that doesn't mean they will next week.

I doubt that the bookmakers will agree. If you think it's 50/50 and they offer more than 2.00 on the dogs you should go for it.

Confident...but the boys have to turn up switched on and ready to play.

With the Dogs it is vital to keep them pressured so that they cannot get their kicking/running game going.

Pressure stops their precise kicking...and makes them just kick long into their small forward line which then plays into our hands.

The poster might be referring to that in our last match against the Bulldogs, Round 17, Higgins was injured in the 2nd quarter and Murphy was injured in the 3rd quarter and Gilbee did not play, but we still won by about 45 points.

Also the fact that we were just 3 goals in front at 3 quarter time and the Bulldogs only had two fit players on the bench, yes we did kick away and kicked 6 goals to their 2, but with only 2 players on the bench they were hamstrung in the last and they did not have Gilbee playing at all.

It will be a close match IMO

If we don't beat them we don't deserve to play in GF. We are much much better than what they showed tonight. Have run their race. I think we are in for a Cat fight for the premiership.

Reference to Rubbish ....OP......re preference (talk that Bulldogs/Coll played that game to avoid us)

Whilst we will start fav. next week I have seen (our prelims) and many others that have not gone the way of the fav.

I rate the bulldogs very highly
I rate the saints very highly

dare/run v defensive pressure/excellent counterpunch

When we played earlier in year epecially ..Cats.. we had the dare and run early and the defensive pressure
last few games not as much dare/run

PRELIM FINAL
50/50

Of course hope we smash them.

Hope you a much better football judge than a cricket one. Very unfair to pick up on skills tonight. The wind was a joke and as for intensity they were first to the ball all night so I reckon that shows some intensity.

Let's continue their even more miserable history than ours!

They are as weak as piss - we need to be at 80% intensity to win.

Ideally, we can save a bit in the tank for the Granny!

When you let the dogs run/carry they will cut you up...Harbrow did as he pleased and they were able to get first hands on the pill.
Pressure by the Lions was non existent so dogs did what they do best.
We will not let them do this and have showed in the 2 home and away games that they fall apart when relentless pressure is applied...
Still dont know how they will stop Roo and Kosi or how there forwards will kick enough goals with.
A. lack of tall target ( Hahn is a muppet and Welsh looked to be playing off half back)
B. lack of foward entry as they will not win as much ball out of the middle as they did against Lions
C. run and carry through the middle will be down as we will smash.crash and bash them into making mistakes
Yes they are dangerous when they are allowed to play there brand but when we play ours we are a far superior side.
March on Boys !

On SEN they are pumping up the dogs. I went last night and I know...

If we bring it, we will win.

Simple as that.

Yes they are pumping up the Dogs in the press.

I wasnt so impressed .........Bris were not that good and conditions were poor. Dogs looked sharp but were far from impressive. Brisbane played their final last week .......we will say the same about the Dogs next week.

we have the skill all over the ground provided we bring our 100% game on the night. The Dogs will be a bit sore after last night and our boys should be all in tip top condition.

Agreed.

Pretty resounding victory in what were terrible conditions.

The confidence on this site is leaving me uneasy I have to say.

Bulldogs can beat any side on their day.

If the game is close at 3/4 time, they have footballers that can put together 20 minutes of brilliance to blow us out of the water.

The grand final will better with us or the Dogs in it. Great footy for that either of the 2 teams will be there.

I think we should win. We have had their measure this year, and last night gave me no reason to fear them.

If we have the pressure switch on, we will win.
