Goddard's Bump = PERFECT !!

Post: # 816007Post Eastern »

According to former umpire Derek Humphry-Smith on SEN last night, the bump that BJ laid on Dale Thomas was the perfect way to execute the bump within the current rules !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

It was.

Taller man on a shorter man, got down low and delivered it without making high contact. Could not deliver a better bump.

It was great, there is nothing quite like a good bump.

But a few centimetres higher or an opponent a few centimetres shorter or a little bent over and he would have missed the Preliminary and Grand Finals.

The level of risk is too high to just run in and bump.
You dont want to risk the match review panel even looking at a bump.

Now, the only safe way to bump is to deliberately lower the shoulder by bending at the knees or ducking low.
This also has the advantage of winding the opponent or maybe delivering some bruised ribs.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. GRRRRR BJ! Love his work.

They will not grow old, as those from more northern States grow old.
For them it will always be three-quarter-time, with the scores level
and the wind advantage in the final term.

His shoulder looks higher than the bottom of Daisy's head.
Can't believe Daisy's head did not contact his shoulder.
Maybe the MRP only had videos to go on, no still photos like this.

Lucky not to be deemed head high contact.
Let's not risk suspension in the Preliminary Final.
O.K. to risk in the Grand Final.

Got him well and truly fairly and squarely.

The photo is deceptive.

A simple case of poor little Daisy's flower stem of a body buckling.

You are suggesting that the photo is late.
Slighly after the impact and Daisy's is already collapsing to the ground.

Daisy looks like a crash test dummy in that photo, and i'm not referring to the novelty canadian band from the 90's.

I would say the impact has been made and BJ is starting to stand up a little. Daisy's head has already moved forward and is on it's way back as BJ's shoulder is coming up in front of his face.

It certainly didn't look like head contact on TV

wow... scary
just shows what a difference a camera angle can make

still recon the bump may well go the way of the drop kick in terms of value to risk ratio
