More Saints Fans than Pies....

Post: # 814010Post saintsRrising »

It seemed to me that there were more Saints Fans than Pies at the game....or at least rather we were louder and more passionate than the Pies fans.

I noticed that when the Saints ran out that the roar for the Saints was louder and more sustained than when the Pies ran out.

This continued throughout the game.

Probably the only game I can recall where we out barracked the Pies.

So well done to one and all.

What are other thoughts on this?

I was at the ground and noticed the same thing. I don't think we boo too many teams as they run onto the ground.

I thought there was almost an even number of Saints/Pies supporters.

Seemed to me that there a lot of Saints fans wanting to rev the team up.

Many of us were very pumped.

Although, having said that, there three young guys next to me in M13 who sat in almost complete silence for the entire game. Pretty weird when some of us who were there in '66 are going crazy, while youngsters just sit there.

Some are old before their time, while some of us never grow up !!

I actually thought the numbers were quite even.

Noise from where I was sitting in Q18 was definitely more Collingwood (particularly in the early stages). In general, us folk aren't too loud, we need to inspire our comrades to scream themselves hoarse in the PF & (hopefully) GF to pump up the boys!

i thought before the bounce there were more us than them, and then the great dull mass rose, and u reckon they had just a few more.
Was pretty proud of our turnout and noise yesterday

Lots of noise down in M6 and we were all definitely up for it for sure.

Loudest Saints crowd I've heard for quite a while!

I noticed that.

Collingwood ran out first and I was like....thats not too loud....

Then we ran out and the boos were quite a few octaves highers than what we had produced for Collingwood only moments before.

Funny. I was reading the equivalent of saintsational re the pies website. Many were complaining that they felt that the saints supporters out noised them, which is obviously rare for them. They were also complaining that too many pies supporters were just sitting there and not getting up and about. I was in the AFL members M17 and saints supporters were always going to be outnumbered in this reserve as the pies have literally 10's of thousands AFL members. However I was rapt with the support a few bays along which I believe were the allocated tix for our members. Was great to see ppl OUT OF THEIR SEATS roaring for our boys. The colour around the ground was sensational - particularly behind the goals at the city end. Pies supporters were bemoaning the fact that this area is usually OWNED by them, but it was taken over by saints supporters on Sunday.

I think the excitement of playing finals and having something to play for at last has affected our supporters as well, who came to life with our team.

I was in the MCC members - quite a lot of Saints fans in the members for a change, and even some made some noise (well I did lol!).

From my "neutralish" position, it appeared more Saints fans than Pies, but maybe it's cause they played like shyte and gave their supporters NOTHING to get excited about (except when Pebbles went off with a buggered ankle never to play AFL again of course!!).

I thought their supporters outnumbered us 2 to 1, even more in the MCC where they have the highest supporter base. But I was presently surprised how we made as much, if not more noise than them. Well done to one and all Saints supporters.

We definately had more teeth! Probably explains a distinct whistling noise coming from the Colloingwood sections.

The Pies have red marketing logos on their black and whites. Makes for an interesting optical illusion. The Swans have black the Bombers have white theirs.

Yeah I also noticed that their boos really made our cheers sound better, added some base and made it seem like there was more of an echo... thanks Pies!!

I looked round with a couple of minutes to go when most Filth fans had flown away and numbers wise we were definitely in the minority. 3 big blocks of Saints fand then the rest diperesed around the ground.

Actually Melbourne have by far the highest supporter base in the MCC, something like 25% of Members who nominate a team they support) and the last time they published a list Essendon were 2nd and Collingwood 3rd

Trust me, I was in there for the 1998 final against them and it wasnt pretty..never ever again

There were still 50,000 there AFTER the Collingwood supporters had all left 15 minutes into the last quarter.

Had to stand up to watch because they blocked the view when leaving en masse.

Next time they should be told to crawl out!!
