Our finals record vs. Collingwood

Post: # 810405Post farquhar »

We have defeated Collingwood in finals in 1966, 1992 and 2008.

What is our overall record against them in finals, have they ever beaten us?

Here are the finals in which we have played Collingwood, 8 times for 5 wins and 3 losses, the results being:

1918 1st Semi:
Collingwood 7 16 58
St Kilda 7 7 49

1939 Prelim
Collingwood 20 14 134
St Kilda 15 14 104

1965 2nd Semi
St Kilda 13 24 102
Collingwood 14 17 101

1966 2nd Semi
Collingwood 15 9 99
ST Kilda 13 11 89

1966 Grand Final
St Kilda 10 14 74
Collingwood 10 13 73

1972 1st Semi
St Kilda 11 17 83
Collingwood 8 17 65

1992 Elim
St Kilda 13 13 91
Collingwood 12 11 83

2008 1st Semi
St Kilda 17 4 106
Collingwood 9 18 72

We have played Collingwood far more than any other club in finals and they are one club over which we have a positive W-L ratio in finals (corrected as per Beno88 post below).

The last time Collingwood beat us in a final was 43 years ago! Just how many omens can there be?

Other than Collingwood, we have a postive record against Richmond (67%), Sydney/Sth (60%), Nth Melb (100%) and Essendon (75%).

We also have a 50% record against Adelaide, Brisbane and Fitzroy.

nice. 5-3. and just eight (8) times
that surprises me. i am genuinely stunned by that figure of only playing just the eight times. thought it would have been a few more.

the saints have only played 44 finals in 100+ years. 18% are against collingwood - more than any other side:

fair enough. it surprises me that we've only played 44 finals in about 110 years. that's 2 finals every five years! but at the same time, considering the lack of success over that time, i guess it's not that surprising.
