Similar to Geelong game

Someone said to me that we would have won had we not let North get ahead 5 goals at start cos we won the rest of the game and we were missing Hayes & Hudgton, so the game was pretty much ours. Does anyone agree with this?
Because yesterday's game was almost identical to the round 14 Geelong game, they let us get ahead 5 goals at the beginning and then won the rest of the game, just not quite being able to get over the top. That comment from my mate just annoyed me because if we can use that as an excuse then Geelong can too, and he's pretty much saying in that case that Geelong won R14. What are people's thoughts? is my mate an idiot?
