First-choice midfield...

Post: # 794502Post True Blue Sainter »

There's 45 seconds to play in the GF, a centre bounce, and the scores are level. Who would you want starting in the middle to have the best chance of winning the clearane and driving us inside the forward 50?

For me:

Gardiner - Natural choice. Comfortably our #1 ruck.

Hayes - Our clearance machine. Definitely want him in there as he only runs in straight lines.

Now it gets tough, you could mount a pretty compelling argument for 4-5 players, but I'd go with...

Goddard - another strong body, and a ripping kick to boot. Instruction if he gets the ball is to roost it as far as possible down to Roo & Kosi

Ball - Need another clearance machine. If he's back in form, he's the bloke I'd want in the middle as you know he won't get beaten one-on-one...

Who would you guys want? 8-)

Jones?? maybe to stop the opos best clearance player.

Dal and Joey SPRINTING in from the wings too. Dal knows how to move in traffic.

Was meaning to add that in - Dal & Joey on each wing...

Jones was one of the players I thought of, but I reckon we'd have to be concerned with winning the ball in that situation, and I reckon those three are the best at getting first hands on the ball in the stoppages..

What he said.

The most efficient tap ruckman surrounded by the three best clearance players at the club. And if the opposition gain first possession, the two best tacklers are waiting for them.
