Lyon has shown up Thomas, eh?

Post: # 788399Post James »

He's achieved a tad more than Grant Thomas could in his regime, not to mention Thomas had a significantly better list in his time that Lyon had to recycle as it was completely ridden into the ground.

GT Saints:

Maguire - Pre borked leg
Hammil
Gehrig in his prime
Black
Powell
Thompson
Peckett
Harvey
Austinn Jones

Not to mention younger, fresher Bakers, Hayes's, Hudghtons,

I say with a straight face that 2 premierships were an absolute given in that era. Even 5 in a row from 2004-2008 was very, very possible, Lyon has proved that with what the side has shown this year.

Grant Thomas had this list ridden into the ground at the end of '06 and we were all set to bomb out in '07, have the playing group destabilized, frustrated players leaving, a great chance falling apart... Lyon turned that around. He made the cleverest recruiting choices in our club's history, developed some of our more troubling or ailing players (Dal Santo and Milne anyone?) and established a team unity and an amazing, brutal gameplan for them to employ.

Now I admit he has some stars at his disposal that weren't there under Thomas (or still developing, eg Joey), but the list Thomas had was clearly better. It speaks volumes.

Now he just needs to bring home that freakin' cup, and this argument will be put to bed.

Can someone just cut and paste the 563 pages of Thomas v Lyon threads to this & then lock it?

too early to call yet, i think coll vs bulldogs grand final . Grant thomas should of been a premiership coach in 04 had it not been for the idiot fans stopping a match winning momentum when gehrig got his 100 goal against port .
