Hudghton scans reveal sprain

Post: # 765097Post Shades »

Scans have revealed that Max Hudghton has sustained a right ankle ligament sprain.

Hudghton sustained the injury in the opening quarter of St Kilda's 56-point win over Richmond at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. The key defender will be monitored and assessed by Club medical staff during the week.

Good news! But shouldn't under any circumstances play this week!

If he is fit and in our best 22 he should.

Why? Sometimes sprained ankles only take a few days to mend. They are a very painful injury initially, hence Max's reaction to it, but once they settle down you can often run on them after a few days. Within 3-4 days with strapping and treatment, they look bad due to the scar tissue, but often don't restrict you any more than normal.

Any tennis player will tell you that you shouldn't play a week after straining ligaments - your ankle is as weak as hell. Doesn't matter about "fitness", whatever that means.

He's a good chance to tweak it again and leave us a player short - which is a really bad outcome this week.

Medically fit. I trust our Doctors. By the way I doubt he is even a slight chance of playing.

if it is 99% it's not worth the 1$ chance, we need him for the finals

If he is 99% he plays as he would probably be fitter than he was this week.

Agreed Max out this week!

Max has a history of returning too soon and then breaking down in the first 1/4. Give him the time off to get it 100% which will also allow us to bring in a smaller running player to address us being to static (top heavy) down back....

strap it and he'll be fine.

I climbed a 2000 metre mountain two days after a decent sprained ankle - nothing like some good ol strapping to fix it up!!!

Plain stupid to play him.

If he breaks down it destroys interchange rotation opportunities.
