Kingy incident

Post: # 752631Post st.byron »

I was watching on the box but the replays they showed of the behind play incident looked inconclusive. Couldn't tell if there was something untoward or it was just an accident.
Anyone have more info?

Will probs get a week. Seeing as Power went off with concussion and didnt get back.

Was off the ball, intentional and clearly high...could add up to more than one week actually.

Be thankful Gardi only got one.

I found it hard to pick up on the telly to.
However, from what I could see, I think he might be Okay.

Agree it was off the ball and intentional, but it didn't look high to me. I thought it was a "fair bump", albeit a cheap shot, so maybe Power hit his head on the deck when he landed.

Didn't somebody drop Raph off the ball in a similar fashion a few years back without any penalty or suspension?

Rubbish, was a legit bump, not high at all. Vision is available if you watch the replay. Only thing that may get him is the fact that it MAY have been too far off the ball. Have to wait and see what mood the tribunal is in on Monday.

What about kosi and gia(cant spell it) Kosi didnt play the following week and gia got nothing so why would it matter if the player went off. Kosi went off on a stretcher.

Yeh it was inconclusive on the replay. It didn't look as though there was a swing of an arm or a fist. Was contact from Kingy's body, from his arm /hand or did they trip over each other?

Looked like a fair bump from what I saw on Fox Sports. And since Hall vs Maguire I thought being off the ball meant nothing.

If west got of against x kingy should get a free pass for his next infringement.

The commentators (and I use the term advisedly) on Fox Sports kept saying there was nothing wrong done by King other than it was well off the play.

Given that the MRP decided last year West on X that there is nothing wrong with taking out/blocking/shepherding a player well off the play, then he shouldn't have a case to answer.

Did Power run at King or did King run into Power?

Kevin Barlett said that the rules committee had highlighted the Xavier Clarke incident as "wrong" ... and that West should have been suspended last year.

So it will be interesting what happens here.

Was not high, but was medium/high impact and probably reckless.

2 weeks IMO.

Xavier Clarke / Trent West precedent.

Should be fine - I actually thought that the umpire was relatively close to the incident, yet didn't pay a free or anything.

There is no system of precedent in the AFL.

Specifically, they are NOT ALLOWED to look at previous decisions. Nor can these be used as evidence.

I don't understand why they just don't introduce a system of precedent into the AFL tribunal.

It's kept us going in civil society for thousands of years.

It was West from Geelong who dropped X !!

Lol I dont think he should get anything, it's just players have gone for a lot less, and Power's injured which makes it seem worse.

Nothing in the incident although it can always be construed as a King hit (pun intended)... so should be dismissed.

I have recorded the incident from TV news and watched it on zoom and, although blurry, it seems shoulder to shoulder. Can't see any head high and as others have said, no longer any behind play rule (except for Steven Baker). Can't figure out how Power was knocked out. His head doesn't seem to hit the ground, and he knew it was coming.

Worse happens off the ball than that! Just because the roo can't protect himself...

Mile off the ball, hard to argue 'no high contact' or 'incidental' when the guy is knocked out and plays no further part in the game.

Two weeks for sure. I'd be amazed otherwise.

No bad thing King is old, we will need him fresh at the business end, and McEvoy is good enough to be getting a chance.

Perhaps it will offend the PC among you but I say kudos to King. Incident occurred at a time when we were getting scragged everywhere. He made a stand. Sometimes you pay a price for that.

Did Power run at King or did King run into Power?
Kingy deviated from his line and really dug into him.
