I'd have to side with Robbo on this one.Loyal wrote:i called SEN the other day and told robbo that Chris Judd is over-rated and that i wouldn't have him at STK.

what! i know you're entitled to your opinion .. but that's just stupid! are you telling me that you wouldn't have chris judd at STK?

I heard that call and I agreed ith Robbo as well. Would love him in a Saints jumper. We might be able to find a forward pocket to sit him in while our Saintsational 6 do the busines in the middle.
When I heard that call i honestl thougt it was someone taking the piss.
Good on you for having an opinion tough Loyal. Even if it is a little out there.
Go saints

judd doesn't know his role.
is he the hard-tackling midfielder?
is he the ball-winning genius?
is he the penetrating kick?
is he the handball hero?
is he the good mark?
is he the guy who does it all?
is he the guy who can go forward?
is he the six-million dollar man?
is he the captain of industry?
is he the freak?
his move to carlton has more questions than he has provided answers to.

Valid point, Loyal.
He's the captain and gun gamebreaker for chrissakes.
At one end Fev's going all sooky la la and in the middle you have a captain who's not there when the game's there to be had.
Would Riewoldt do that? In fact would any of our mature leaders - Hayes, Ball, Goddard...in fact would ANY Saint do that?
I think not.
Equally, would Roo cop Kosi bludging about doing sweet bugger all in the goal square except being stroppy...
There's obviously a lot to like about Judd, but sometimes I do wonder whether it's all about him and less about the team he's playing for...
Besides, I can't stand Freo...I wanted Carlton to win... and I was good for an eight if they did...
There...showed my hand...

Obviously you'd be mad not to have Judd in the side if possible, but I agree with Loyal on the count that he is extremely overrated...
He is a top line footballer, but he has many many weaknesses, and gets far too much credit from media types like Gary Lyon and commentators that just loose their mind when he gets a handball recieve...
It is actually very funny if you listen specifically to the commentary when Judd gets the ball... They often just use his name... "murphey handballs the ball clear, kicked off the gound by stevens,... JUDD"...??!!.... go on??!!...

How can you possibly judge a player like Judd on the basis of one game where Joey and Dal had 38?Loyal wrote:joey and dal had thirty-eight disposals respectively. for mine they work harder than judd.
It makes no sense to selectively nitpick a particular performance and use that as the basis for arguing about a player's overall worth. Judd has proven himself to be a gun for years now. He's still emerging from packs with the pill and his disposal is great. Rarely wastes it. Are you seriously saying that you wouldn't have Judd in our team on the basis of not being on the ground towards the end of the Freo game. It was probably a scheduled rotation. That's crazy Loyal. He's elite. Has been for seasons on end. Absolute gun.
not being on the ground and in fact as captain pulling yourself off with six minutes left down by fifteen and within the context of the game/season yes i would say that as a reference point it illustrates his lack of elite awareness. whether it was a scheduled pit stop or not as captain leadership is the most important factor and you can not lead for the ball from the bench.st.byron wrote:How can you possibly judge a player like Judd on the basis of one game where Joey and Dal had 38?Loyal wrote:joey and dal had thirty-eight disposals respectively. for mine they work harder than judd.

alright, so he is a premiership player. is that it? because he has won a premiership he is an all-time great?
his ability to stick tackles is also in question.
he made five tackles in a game where fremantle were led by schammer and no-one else. tarrant perhaps the only other docker who had a good game. judd missed at least five tackles in the third quarter alone.
sorry byron. he may be elite, yet yes, he makes the regulation ease look increasingly difficult. i would take monty over judd on any day of any given week and in any year. monty is as a runner so much better than judd. monty is an elite in a way that judd will not ever be, we know that.
the question over judd is judd in a role.
what clearly defined role does judd have at carlton?
what aside from doing his own thing does judd specialise at?
is he a tackler, a kicker, a handballer, a stopper or an aggresive midfielder?
What an odd question! Why does he have to be catergorised? He is very very good at a lot of things that a midfielder needs to be good at at this level. Sure you can't say he's a tough in and under mid like a Lenny or an outside runner like Joey, but he is very good at those facets. Just because he doesn't specialise in one doesn't mean he is over-rated!Loyal wrote:the question over judd is judd in a role.

I can understand your point about him being off the ground so late in the game. When I saw that I thought it wasn't appropriate from the skipper when the team needed him on.

No Judd for me either, yes he can do some great things with the football. But to a degree I feel he is also over rated. Our midfield are better off without him. Winning the ball without turning to the umps for assistance. I for one don't want culture like that at our club. We should look to be better than Geelong, and not diving is one area I'm glad we're upholding.
i am trying to catagorise judd at carlton, yes that is true.kp83 wrote:What an odd question! Why does he have to be catergorised? and i am trying to label him as something other than what he may be, again true. why though? why am i trying to categorise him and label him?
perhaps i'm jealous.
no, why i am trying to catagorise judd at carlton is because i have seen trends last year and thought that they may have been ironed-out yet they remain.
the trend in his game is him CONSTANTLY being in two minds.
as a professional he's a clearance-winner. no more and no less. in his position as captain he is forced to do many other things.
he is forced to be the tackler. because no-one at carlton can tackle.
he is forced to be the stopper. because no-one at carlton can stop.
he is forced to be the runner. because they have limited run.
and he is forced to be a goal kicker.

as soon as you start making gross generalisations like these you lose credibility. You were doing a reasonable job of arguing that Judd is not worthy of a spot in our 22, although I reckon it's absolute rubbish, but as soon as you start saying things like, "....no-one at carlton can tackle, .....no-one at carlton can stop", you lose any credibility you had.Loyal wrote:

Highest ranked tackler at Carlton = C.Judd. Nearly 5 per game average.
and.....
Carlton defence ranked 6th for points against. Based on your generalisation no-one in any of the teams ranked below Carlton can stop.

well he might be multi talented but....he could have waited till he got home....or at least made it into the shower....
