What is with the sudden appearance of tattoos?

Post: # 724856Post saintfreddy »

One thing that has surprised me this season is what seems to be a sudden increase in the appearance of tattoos on players.

In one of the Collingwood games recently I saw two of their boys with an entire arm coloured in.

Then there are many players that almost seem to have home made tattoos on the inside of their arms etc. I kind of wonder what sort of message this sends to kids?

Are the players now so bored that tattoos are the in-thing?

I was trying to think of which Saints players have tattoos (we can't count the fake ones for the ads), but either they are hiding them well or there aren't many. I think Dal has an inside arm one.

message to kids?

There is nothing wrong with tats, its a personal choice.

The arm sleeve is pretty lame, if a mate got that i'd prob never stop giving him s***.

I dont have a tat, but may get a small one in future.

It's not just footy either. It's happening in all sports.

In the NBA there would have to be more players with a tattoo than without.

As for my favourite tattoo in the AFL:

Pretty cool tattoo for a Kiwi to have I reckon...

Why sudden??

They have been on the increase for a while...and are just a reflection on tattos being more common in society these days.

Just think back to Spider...

Personally i thought the look made those two lads fit in quite well down at collingwood. Disgusting and tacky if you ask me, trailer trash even. Yep, Beams has slotted right in.

Saintbrat, Lenny did mention that he might get one if we win the flag. :D
(yet another thing we have in common  ).

Dane Beams is the kid who has "Strength through Loyalty" tattooed on his chest isn't he?

Yep, speak for your self, but please don't trailer trash...

I have one and am proud of it...

Why mention a Yank saying in any case??

Beams is and will be a good player, so what that he has tattoos

There's a difference with having a tattoo and that. Everyone's opinion Is different but I can't see how anyone thinks that a good look.

I know If someone came to my house looking like that I'd be hiding any valuables.

hide ya valuables !!
theres a gay thief coming around to look like a twat with drawings on his/her body.

be real...someone has some ink so they are gay? a thief?
talk about programming ffs.
so on that account if i have one on my back from when my pop died, one on my chest celebrating 5 premierships for my footy team and the fish on my forearm symbolising the age of pieces must mean im a a homosexual thief?

so what that two players have their sleeves done in the afl??
as soon as people see tats they think of crime bikies and violence...

ill be getting a saints one this year?
ill post a pic of of me in my gay leathers around at your place stealing ya LCD telly with the new tat in plain site for the photo

It is a shame that people, particularly young people are so easily manipulated by the whims of fashion.

Whatever the "In" people are doing,
or the vacuous magazines tell them the "In" people are doing,
they feel the need to copy them.

Sad part is that
- whims change and
- people get older and wiser,
but the tatts remain.

One day they will wake up and realise they are a loser covered in stupid embarassing graffiti.
