Drastic measures.....

Post: # 656798Post BigMart »

What if we took a HARD line on underperformer and list cloggers...

I am definitely not advocating this, but lets examine it...

With all the talk of wholesale changes, big trades and getting rid of underperformers, anyone would think we finished 12th - or were 1 and 2 that far in front we must do something????....

Big Names that will cost gun or first rounder
D.Kerr
R.O'Keefe
R.Warnock
A.Didak
Medium Names that will require good player or second rounder
B.Rielly
J.Sherman
B.Fisher
A.Lovett
R.Murphy (dockers)
F.Ray
A.Hanson
J.Schultz
K.Pettifer
J.Laycock
Old guys for not much/b]
N.Thompson
B.Cousins

Youngsters with little cost
B.Dowler
C.Egan
M.Bailey

Saints Underperforming worth first rounder
J.Koschitzke
N.Dal Santo

D.Armitage
Probably worth someting, not much
L.Fisher
J.Gwilt
Worth nothing - delist

J.Koschitzke-------------->R.O'Keefe
N.Dalsanto---------------->D.Kerr (via on-trade)

Is that side any better with all our NEW players...

No point in swapping mid-range players for more mid-range players.

If we recruit any mature players they should be absolute guns (Kerr/O'Keefe) or dirt cheap and in our best 22 (Cousins/Pettifer?).

Pettifer and Cousins in the same sentence MSG?? Holy crap thats drawing a pretty long bow

Also reckon Warnock does not deserve the company he's keeping in that top list.

So we bring in 6-7 new players, hope and pray just like last year that they fit in, and spend the 1st half of the year indeed fitting them in and learning the game plan?

Meeeh..bit too drastic for mine.

That's the point.....it must be considered...not necessarily done...

What are the ramifications????

Would those players improve the side, fill holes etc...

OR can our under performers improve, which is where the improvement comes from...

Never rule out anything when it comes to StKFC.....we are moving to Seaford FFS

Way too drastic.

Trading needs to be considered only to fill 1 or 2 parts of the missing jigsaw, at most... If we went by many posts on here, your analysis would be accurate BigMart, and what a miserable team we'd have...

IMO if we can snare a good AFL running mid (cousins, lovett) for not a hell of alot, go for it, but at no stage would I ever consider trading a vital part of our current side (Dal, Kosi), to plug a hole elsewhere... All that does is shift the problem, not solve it...

If we trade Kosi, my money is on us looking to trade for a 'versatile big man' next trade season.....

The thing is, it actually improves our starting 22 a lot.

Look at the 22 BigMart posted .... it's sensational.

It's a strategy definitely worth some consideration.

My read on those trades
BigMart wrote: J.Koschitzke-------------->R.O'Keefe Draw - O'Keefe's more consistent, Kosi's got more years left in him.
N.Dalsanto---------------->D.Kerr (via on-trade) Wouldn't happen - Kerr is under contract and would cost the earth. To secure him would have to chuck our first rounder into the deal, and a cherry on top. Too much
X.Clarke------------------>A.Lovett Slight win - but we trade injury issues for off-field issues. Maybe Misson can finally get X's body right next year, maybe not.
M.Maguire----------------->F.RayLOSS - Ray is Fiora mk. II, has the talent, but won't put it together. Goose getting his body right is a safer bet
D.Armitage---------------->J.Sherman Loss - Sherman hasn't kicked on since breaking out two years ago. Armitage is just getting started
Use a pick to gain the sevices of either Murphy/Schultz/Hanson/B.Fisher. - Clubs would want our 2nd rounder at least, they're barely worth that. Each is on the outer at their respective clubs for a reason. Maybe Murphy for a 3rd rounder, maybe

That level of trading would be outrageous, and wreaks of desperation.

We simply don't have enough players worthy of being in our top 25 who are tradeable with a likelihood of a gain for us through the trade. Most scenarios see us giving up way too much for a relatively high risk option like Kerr (bag of trouble) or O'Keefe (past his prime and 28 years old)

Personally, I'd only be interested in trading to gain draft picks, but again, I see little scope for this.

At the most, I can see us trading away one player for a draft pick.

Not a bad post Marto but u left Joey out of the underpreformers.

Never stands up when the going gets tough. As far as i am concerned is worse than Dal
