I would like to see Gilbo named in a back pocket beside Max for every game next yr. We have a history of success in this succession plan for Full Backs;

Frawley-Shanahan

Shanahan-Hudghton

Gehrig-????????? (forgot)

There must be more .............Alzimers, I think    !!

I hope not. we've gained nothing and going into next season with the same list but replacing Harvey with Cousins. You obviously think we have a good enough list now?

Round 1 will be that lineup, but throughout the year as form changes, and injuries emerge, guys like Allen, Howard, Steven and McEvoy will all play AFL games.

Bakes and Goose really give us some of that hardness back that we were so sorely missing on saturday.

I hope not I would like to see a few changes that add some strength to our list that keep a few of those players out or I don't think we've gained much in our pre season.

I also have a feeling Maguire and Baker are going to struggle and wont make it back to the level.

Gilbert really had a touch of the second year blues this year after being a standout in 07.

He certainly has more talent than he showed for much of 08.

as for our list, I think its a better list than we played against Geelong and Hawthorn.

not pointing the finger, but we are a lot lot lot better than we showed.

And concur, X, Ball and Maguire will be important to step up in 09.

Discipline and working on our skills and decision making.

ALso I expect that armitage, Rafael, eddy and others will lift their rating as their experience expands.

I think Beveridge has left us in a good position, its up to the players and the coach to get the most out of themselves.

That's a fair line up but I think you'll find that it's culturally insensitive not to have our first 2 picks (just refer to them as 13 & 31 until they have names) as automatic inclusions in our best 22 for any posts from September through to mid-January.

At least that's what I've learnt from a few years of watching the forum during the off season. We display a creepy affection for whatever 17/18 year olds get the call up from the national draft.

Until they play.

What he said, almost...

Baker will be in, I suspect at expense of Birss.

Room will be made for Attard, perhaps at expense of Eddy.

As usual, good on paper :?

This team will be an improvement from this becasue the young players as the likes of Armitage, Eddy, Steven, Jones, Gilbert, McEvoy all got a good hard season under thier belt for the saints or scorpians some of them even getting finals experience and now they get a full pre season in them they will be better. And getting the likes of X.Clarke, Baker and Maguire back for a full pre season we will be much better

Ideal top 22

Gilbert, Hudghton, R.Clarke
Dempster, Maguire, S. Fisher
Dal Santo, Armitage, Hayes
Gram, Goddard, Montagna
Milne, Riewoldt, X

King, Ball, Cousins (or Kerr or some other experiencedmidfielder)

Extended bench: Kosi, Blake, Baker, Jones, Schneider, Gwilt, Steven

Others on the fringe: Allen, McEvoy, McQualter, Attard (if recovered), Rix (as backup if King injured), Fiora (because he's on contract)

Others who will still be floating around, although I'm pessimistic about their contributing much: Geary, Eddy, Eljay, Howard

3 new draft picks

Gone (if I was in charge)

Harvey
Gehrig
M Gardiner
C Gardiner
Ferguson
Birss (I'd prefer to keep him over Fiora, but I assume this is not possible)
L Fisher (given Dempster's injury, I'd keep him over elevating one out of Attard, Eddy and McQualter, but I expect I'm fighting a losing cause)

So, let's now assume that we are missing Dempster and Goddard (suspended) from round 1 and that Baker and Goose can't make it back right away

Gilbert, Hudghton, R.Clarke
X, Blake, S. Fisher
Dal Santo, Armitage, Hayes
Gram, Goddard, Montagna
Milne, Riewoldt, Schneider (if we must)

King, Ball, Cousins (or Kerr or some other experiencedmidfielder)

Extended bench: Kosi, Jones, Gwilt, Steven, Attard, Allen, McEvoy

BTW this is just how I see it, not how I expect Lyon to see it.

Of course if we could snare two good trades - say Hall and Cousins (or others we haven't thought of) - we'd really be laughing. But that's probably beyond what we can expect.

Int (from): King, Blake, R. Clarke, Eddy, Clint Jones, X. Clarke, M. Gardiner, McQualtar, Birss, Armitage, McEvoy, Steven

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

Am I missing something, but has Lovett actually done anything to make him attractive to us?

Quick, yes, but he's hardly hard at it, he' ill-disciplined, and he's form appears to be mirroring the US economy.

What's the appeal?

I'm not being a smartarse. I'm genuinely curious as to what people see in him.

So you don't think that we will trade one of them to West Coke for Kerr?

Goodness, we agree on something!! Long may it continue.

Looks BBBB Hall is a loose cannon and a thug, and one part of me feels strongly that I would never want to see him back in the R, W and B.

But I've come to realise that he'd be sensational at full forward for us next year: he could even be the missing piece in the jigsaw that would take us to a flag.

If we had Hall, suddenly the issue about our being too Riewoldt-focused would be totally gone. In fact, with Hall playing furthest forward, Nick could play mainly in the area from 40-70 metres out from goal and become even more dangerous than he is now. Notice how dangerous O'Keeffe was in 2005-06 and how much less dangerous he has been in the last couple of years when Hall firstly lost form through injury and then spent a lot of time suspended.

Unless he's seriously injured in some way we don't know about (andf I don't mean in his head), I'd consider going so far as to trade our first round draft pick to get him and, say, a lower draft pick.

I
