I think he brings muscle and a no-nonsense attitude.
a bit of backbane.
we dont lose much at the expense of bally.
dont lose much at all.
i still see us winnning by seventy points.

doesnt look like birssa has been picked
i know he copped a cut on the head last week for casey but maybe his attitude is the concern.
i think fiora gets a bad wrap.

You have to feel that Birss is unlucky if he doen't play tonight...

This year...

Birss

8 Matches...

averages per match...

14.3 disposals
6 marks
3.1 tackles
1 goal

Fiora

9 matches

averages per match

11.7 disposals
4.2 marks
1.6 tackles
.2 goals

The only thing in Fiora's favour is that he has played 3 finals matches compared to Birss nil

Fiora 2 with Richmond (2001) and 1 with the Saints (2005)...

But in those 3 matches he was crap...

Birss has played far better than Fiora this year IMO

And he will continue to after watching the first half. He scored an opportune goal but has done nothing else other than not apply pressure and drop marks.
i think fiora gets a bad wrap.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Birss is a quality player who looks like he'll get the sack due to personal reasons. His 2008 form has been much better than at least 6 of the players in the team this year.

Birss is generally not apassenger when it comes to effort, unlike several others.

Fiora's a waste of a spot on the list. Piss poor in contests, offers bugger all time and time again.

An absolute joke that Fiona played ahead of Birss.
I just can't understand it!

I think Birss's career is over. If you don't get picked ahead of Fiora, then I don't think Ross will ever pick him.

Someone suggested earlier that he may have been injured with Casey last week...is that true?

Do you have any explanation for the 'personal reasons'? Sounds a little like slander to me.

I am also interested if you can elaborate on the personal reason as to why he will get the arse..

I would be curious too, as I had not heard anything about off-field issues.

I would note that Birss ALMOST played instead of Hayes against the Pies.

I don't know of anything particular, it's just an observation of Lyon's tendency of dropping him after playing well. In our team over the past couple of years you haven't had to do a whole lot to keep your spot, and when Birss is being accountable and getting plenty of the ball it seems very strange that he isn't selected. He has certainly played better this year than Eddy, Armitage, Fiora, Jones, Gwilt and McQualter yet he doesn't come into consideration.

Because Lyon must have some other reason for not selecting Birss, since his form is obviously not an issue.

I think you really need to ask yourself that question.

I think you need to not make up things and put it on the forum as fact.

If you want to write it then feel free but please include that it is your theory, speculation etc.. but do not mislead people by stating it as a fact.

In this case it is very unfair on BOTH Birss who you have slurred....as well as Lyon.
