Got a feeling he's lost a fair bit of what speed he had, and the game will probably have passed him by. Would love to be proven wrong.... There's not many forwards in the league that Goose is a good match up for anymore, they all seem a bit agile and athletic for him!

is there the possibility of turning him into a stay at home FF? since our backline looks settled now.

God i hope the penny has finally dropped and they ease his fitness back up slowly

he's played stuff all footy for 2 and a bit years... i don't want to this, "i'll be back in the senior side for rd1" garbage

In my professional opinion (not having seen or spoken to Matty or the club and not been privvy to any inside medical info) they should aim to have him spend the first half of the season playing halfs at Sandy, working up his fitness and confidence, then look to debut him shortly b4 the split sound so he can have a game or 2 + a rest.

It's a catch 22... with the evolution of fwds, the dfenders have also evolved. So it would be fair to say that defenders would also be all over him.

That said, who are we to judge if he's lost pace?? BJ seems to be going ok.

We could always play him in a Tom Harley type role in defence. Play him on a small forward and let him drop off and fill holes in front of the big guys.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

BJ is back in the swing of it, as is Lenny... as Harves has been able to do.

Nafan Brown doesnt seem too hampered now from his troubles - and hes had his fair share too.

Goose deserves a chance to get back to the superstar he once was. Cannot afford to let a player of that quality go so easily. Another year on the list at the least. Have a bit of a rest now, solid pre-season with some intra-club and VFL games for Sandy. Ease him into it and I think he'l be right.

I think we could use him as a genuine swingman like an Adam Hunter (without the bullsh*t sniping style) / Scott Lucas type utility.

said by commentators as the crowd in unison yells
"GOOOOOOOOOSE"
as matty comes steaming thru

Plonk Goose at Full Forward! He can replace G-Train there and I reckon he
will do OK too!

Definitely think Goose's future is in the forward line.

Our defence consists of players all 191cm or taller (allowing that R. Clarke as 189cm is forced back by Dempster being out - and R. Clarke will play mid/forward and occasionally back with Dempster back).

Goose is 190cm and is a straight line defender - so his use is limited to CHB exclusively, complimenting the running 191cm plus brigade who can also cover for him if someone tries to turn him inside out and expose his straight ahead style.

He has to have a particular match up.

Marking in defence as a 190cm player is different to marking in attack, where you have spoilers at every contest so an attacking player Goose will not make.

Too short.

And a full back he will not make.

CHB as a straight line defender or no-where.

Good to see that the Goose is making a positive step in his recovery. But I do agree in taking it really slow with him for next year, and not trying to rush him for round 1.

If Goose is a foward the so is Max. Said it before and will say it again he has no attributes that a forward needs. If he cannot make it as a backman then he is finished.

How about we let Goose get a pre-season under the belt then re-assess !!

Happy to disagree on this one. He will be too easily exploited as a backman, and will be tried as a half forward. If he doesn't succeed then he will be delisted/traded.

Blake is surely a better option for CHB until goose is 100% again (which I don't believe will be until late next year)

If that is the case he will play in the seconds until he is fit. What has he ever done when sent forward to suggest he can play ther permanately. If he get fit again he is good enough to play back.
