Shane Wakelin

Post: # 641492Post hotdish »

As he played 94 games in 7 years, its fitting that Shane will play his last AFL this saturday night against the club he began with.

Congrats on a great career and enjoy retirement!

Saw him on the train the other day. He was wearing thongs - media thongs.

When people can't seperate football from real life, that's when you have stalkers, Joffa clones, people who king-hit players in night clubs, etc.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Good on him for making something of his career after we delisted him.

Articulate and thoughtful every time I've seen him. Made the most of a pretty limited skill set - more than handy defender.

I seem to remember footage of him in the crowd at the '04 GF after SA version of the filth won. He was bawling his eyes out.
Perhaps Happy for his brother, Darryl, who played in the winning team. But I also suspect tears of frustration that it wasn't him and he'd already played in 3 losing GF teams. D'oh!

Good player. A delisting that may have cost us the GF. Would have been handy in 2004 and 05.

Not a fan of these kind of hypotheticals.
FFS, this was 5 years after he had departed the St.Kilda F.C.

That's true, but we put so much time and effort - sorry, Stan Alves put so much time and effort, into these guys we should have done our best to keep both. I wanted Shane in and Shanas out for the 1997 GF! Another hypo I know.

He was at the front of the line up and him and harvs embraced as he walked off...he didn't get carried off, but it is a given that he's retired.

Wakelin has had nothing but bitterness towards the St.Kilda FC ever since he was delisted. Good ridance as far as I am concerned. His brother was twice the player he was. If he had concentrated on his footy as much as his 'after hours' activities when he was at the Saints, he MIGHT have been half successful.
