Changes for the week & Match ups

Post: # 632749Post older saint »

In: Ball ( hopefully) X Clarke
Out: Dempster, Eddy?

Tough call on Eddy but not really any other obvious one.

Interestingly McQaulter could come into the equation with Dempster gone as may lack a tagger in the middle.

Bartel / Hayes ( may help break Ling Tag)
Ablett/ ? no tagger really
Ling/ Goddard ( smart enough to play lose if ling follows Hayes who follows Bartel.)
Selwood/ Jones?

Middle a worry a obviously. I think we match up OK with their forwards,
Max/ Mooney
Fisher/ Johnson
Blake/Lonergan
Gilbert/ Stokes
Raph/Gwilt/ Milburn

Need to make Scarlett accountable and not allow him to run off. Also go to harley's man so he cannot float in front of Roo
Scarlett/ Gwilt
Harley/ Taylor
Enright/ Charlie
Hunt/ Milne
Harley/ Schnieder

Slow then through the middle, tough tight footy, run hard and use the ball. Kick straight and keep it close and who knows what could happen

I like Ling-Goddard.

Hayes head to head with Ablett.

Birss or Mini to Bartel

Gwilt-Scarlett also good (but that is determined by Geelong, not us.)

Jones-Wojcinski

I like the rest of the matchups too, especially Fisher-SJ.

We have to negate the effect of Joel Corey too.

Hopefully we go in with an offensive mindset, despite some negative matchups.

Surely Scarlett would go to Kosi or Roo.

It depends on where they line up.

Imagine at the first bounce, Roo and Kosi both start on a wing!

If you put Fisher on Johnson - you will lose his run. Need another matchup.

If we play too defensively we won't stay in the contest.

Taylor will play on Roo, so they can free up Scarlett to create.

I believe our wildcards will be our small forwards. If Milne and Schneider

continue to play like they have for the past 3 weeks they can cause some

drama. I think Birss will play half forward and play defensively on either

Enright or Milburn not allowing them to zone off.

my match ups would go as follows

ablett vs gram no point putting a tagger on him as he will destroy anyone at the moment so let gram play like he played on judd both will cause damage the other way

bartel vs birss let birss shut him down as he is a very smart player and usually hangs around the half back line when the cats are in trouble.

corey and hayes to go head to head.

fanta pants will prob tag dal

monty to go with kelly

jones and selwood

the midfield will be crucial to who ever wins the game

I reckon you're on the $$$ there SA Saint. Birss has a few quality scalps this year & Bartel is hugely important to the Cats. Ablett will do his flashy stuff & making him accountable the other way to Gram is a good idea. We need to tackle the pants off them & Bally & X back would be great additions in this regard.

Down back I'd go with Max on Johnson. Max is our best pure defender & Johnson is their best forward. Blakey on Looney Mooney, Gilbo on Lonergan, release Chipper (I wouldn't be surprised if they put a defensive forward on Chips) to create.

We are rank underdogs but the key is that our midfield is very deep now. Losing Dempster is a blow but it may give X the opportunity. He may be the X factor!

i agree with the defence they should cope alright against their forward line. max to go with steve and if he pushes up the ground maybe gilbo while max takes gilbos opponent. we need to keep max in the 50 at all costs as he is the general.

plus we have goddard who can play midfield really really well. if he can fill in the midfield role while some of our guns are being rested that will do us a world of good.

the cats have a few problems of their own in defence.

our ideal match ups in the forward line would be

Roo to have harry t on him which he will destroy no matter were.

charlie on harley as harly is the best player at reading the play and intercepting opposition kick so we need to get him away from the ac0tions as charlie has got a good work rate.

gwilt to be on scarlett to lead him away from spoiling and keep an eye on him with his rebounds.

kosi to milburn, kosi should have advantage there

then we have the little fellas

milne on hunt

schneider on enright
