Anyone Know Why Mini Didn't Play
Does anyone know why Mini was replaced by Birss today.

He seemed fine at training on Wednesday so I can only presume it was a decisoin by the match commitee to swap him with Birss.Bernard Shakey wrote:Does anyone know why Mini was replaced by Birss today.

Jones out for X. Most said his game was great today, but he has completed his butchering of the sherrin apprenticeship and is fully qualified in the trade now.Saints Premiers 2008 wrote:not saying his game was poor but probably eddy comes out

If butchering a footy was an Olympic event he'd be a three-time defending gold medallist.
Without the ball he's terrific, with the ball he's a liability.

I agree, it's definitely a tough choice. No-one chases, harrasses, and tackles like CJ. But no-one can turn over the ball as well from bad decisions and skill errors.OLB wrote:If butchering a footy was an Olympic event he'd be a three-time defending gold medallist.

Definitely brings something to the side, and I believe opposition coaches can exploit him by playing loose on him and allowing him to get the ball (hence his high possession count).
I think X can bring some of Jones's pressure, but the class and skill we are so used to seeing from X. From a gameplan point of view, you would swap like for like, and I think these two are alike.
Eddy is probably the other choice. Perhaps the length of the season is getting to him and he could use a spell.

I reckon this is overplayes to shytehouse and to me Jones wasnt the butcher your making him out to be.OLB wrote:Otiman wrote:Jones out for X. X and Jones can and should play in the same side and out goes Eddy, Gardiner for mine (Raph/Gwilt share the 3rd lead uo fwd role).
MCG , wide open space, use the extra run and carry for mine.

Thought Birss was okay, certainly played his role, and looked good on a day where just about everyone looked good.
I'd say Mini might have had his spot stolen less because Birss was excellent and more because you probably want to change a side that dismantled a team ahead on the ladder as little as possible.
If X is truly fit enough to be an option, I'd still think Birss might struggle to retain the spot between those 2. Charlie Gardiner isn't playing terrifically, but I like the way the team works with the extra leading forward, so he might survive. Eddy probably goes for Ball.
Nothing will surprise me though regarding those 3.

Jones is a tough one. He does a lot of good things, but his disposal is terrible at best. I was suprised to see he had 25 yesterday, and 17 effective,I would thought it was 17 uneffective or clangers.
Geez we need some players who can kick in that side, our foot skills are woeful. If we could sort that out we'd be only behind Geelong, unfortunately it's not an easy thing to fix.

Exactly.Otiman wrote:It looks alright on TV, but at the ground it just feels like he turns over the ball quite often when you can easily see a better option for him to pass to.Teflon wrote:I reckon this is overplayes to shytehouse and to me Jones wasnt the butcher your making him out to be.
I wouldn't risk him in the finals, particuarly with how loose he is against an opponant.

Jones has been great the last month, his disposal has improved out of sight and he doesnt deserve to be dropped.

Has anyone else noticed how unco CJ looks when he's kicking the ball?
First there is a slight delay as though he's trying to concentrate hard, then he stabs at it. Half the time it looks like it comes off his shin.
All other facets of his game are fine I reckon. Just needs to work with a natural ball kicker to pick up good tips.

Yeah. I would also like to take it a bit further. CJ fully understands that his kicking skills are limited. What he has changed is that he now operates within those limitations making him a lot more reliable kick. He will never be a brilliant kick, but he is NOW a reliable kick. There is a massive difference !!marksnsparks wrote:Has anyone else noticed how unco CJ looks when he's kicking the ball?

Time you got a life, or does your life revolve around bagging CJ who apart from last week has been in our best 6-8 players for the last 10 weeksOtiman wrote:Jones out for X.
