We are just an above average team no more

Post: # 620655Post older saint »

Our ladder position is exactly correct. We are just about average, perhaps a little above.
Teams like this are inconsistent, win when perhaps shouldn't lose when perhaps shouldn't but in general beat teams below and lose to teams above.

We are overrated by the media and supporters who think we are still the unit from 2004 2005. Very different team.

The overrating is due to those teams having young stars which would develop, but the players around are the difference now as they were then.

Out: Hamill, Thompson, Powell, Jones, Gehrig, Maguire ( inj) Penny, Voss,
Black Guerra
In: Fiora, Schnieder, Dempster, King,

The loss of talent has not been offset by the improvement and new players coming through so it is unrealistic we should be a top team with that change.

2 options -tough decisions and land a big name recruit - not done since 2000
or
Tough option -trade and build youth and the Reiwoldts etc become the Hamills, Gehrigs etc of the next generation. Problem is you may lose those players who won't want to take a backward step.

Should make finals, perhaps win 1 but no fear held by Geelong

in all honesty i dont think a combined team of the rest of the afl would cause Geelong fear . the main diferance in the cats and us is skill our plyers have been potentials where as theirs have been reaching the potential we hang on for ours to "one day hopefull reach it

It is Geelongs recruiting that has helped them (plus their father sons) Scarlett and Ablett for two

I remember when Mackie was picked up at pick number 8 and it was out of left field, look at him repay them now..
