Could Fiora be transformed into our Steve Johnson?

Post: # 615970Post Cairnsman »

Just wondering about our perceived lack of a mid sized forward ala Steven Johnson of the Cats.

There was hope that Charlie Gardiner might become that player at the start of the year but doesn't seemed to have worked out.

Fiora has definetly got a good long accurate kick and can kick them.

Could he be moulded into this player. Obviously we still need him to be defensive up forward.

The only way he could change to Steve johnson would be an overdose of Gamma radiation.

I like Fiora, but i dont think his body is big enough

Steve Johnson is a big lad

in the mould of Cooney and Goddard, i want Goddard to be the running midfielder like Cooney, he has better skills

S Johnson would be a midfielder at any other club other than cats

but with, Ablett, Corey, Selwood, Bartel and cameos from Chapman and Stokes he has to play the way he does which benefits their tea,

Beginning to have suspicions about Pilgram.

he was on sunday. great skills. in fact, what you'd expect from a top 3 draft pick.

maybe he's ready to finally deliver on his promise.

well would you agree that our forward line could do with Steve Johnson type player.

I know that Steve J has skills that Fiora will never have but I am talking about a mid sizer that can pop up and kick a couple everyweek.

no

Too inconsistent. His best game of the year and it was against mediocre opposition and it was only a good not great game.

IMO he doesn't any significant improvement left in him, would rather see us pump games into Birss

No..too small..

BUT Gwilt could.

However Gwilt needs to playa lot more than one good game as his earlier ones this year were not much chop.

yes Cairnsman I agree we do need a small to medium sized forward to add bite around the half forward line. This is what Lyon had in mind I reckon when he recruited Schneider. Schneider hasn't really hit his straps unfortunately and we're still a bit too Roo-dimensional. Could Fiora be moulded into that role?
Yes if he's dipped in a vat of cloning fluid and comes out with different genes, a different body and a hard at it mindset. Then he's a monty for it.

A S.Johnson type is what our foward half really needs, but Fiora hasnt shown he has those qualities.C Gardiner was the hope ,but 1 good 2 ordinary isnt the answer either.

Should I say Didak next year?

Yeah I would have thought that snides is more your crumbing or opportunist type which ofcoarse we need but a mid size who could kick them from the arc would just provide that different scoring option. We've got the two best smalls in snides and milne. Anyway I reckon Fiora could be that mid sizer slotting them through from the arc. Goddard could obviously be that player but he is going to be part of midfield.

Well CM, I've got to admire your optimism, but as a card carrying member of the Fiora is a Dud society, I'd have to say I'm skeptical at best about Fiora in a Saints jumper at all.
Didn't see the game last Sunday but all reports say that he was reasonable. He's just had so many chances. Will need to contribute solidly again and again and again and not just once every couple of years to erase my doubts about him.

It'd be great if he could just become our Aaron Fiora...he doesn't even play to his own talents consistently. If he did, he'd be great just like that, but he seems like a lazy footballer to me.

Yes, but his other games were in defence. Now I'm trying to defend the indefensible... but when it comes to defending, Gwilt isn't a defender's defender.

Play him on a flank.

The defence rests!

No Fiora is no forward line player in my mind. A pure wingman and that is it, doesn't have the thinking brain to be a small forward.

umm. Steve Johnson is a very very good player and always has been. Hes tough, fast, smart, skilled & has goal sense.

pretty much everything AF is not.
