Used to be to the tune of
"I do like to be beside the seaside" when we were at the Junction Oval

I do like to be beside the seaside
I do like to be beside the sea
And down at the Junction there's a football ground
And that's where the Saints all hang around

So let's ive a cheer for old St Kilda
For this year's premiers we will be
Though it's not quite in the bag
We've got our eyes upon the flag
Beside the seaside, beside the sea

Something like:

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
Oh I do like to be beside the sea
Down at the Junction there's a football ground
And that's where the Saints all hang around
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
Oh I do like to be beside the sea
Though it's not yet in the bag
We've got hopes of winning the flag
Beside the sea side, beside the sea.

To a tune written in 1909 by Hall Florrie Forde.

Fortunately, they got rid of it before we moved to Moorabbin and went back to Oh When the Saints eventhough it cost more for the rights.

I vaguely recall something like...

We're Saints, we're proud blah blah...

... And we're loyal to our mates, coz we're the Saints...
Oh when the Saints etc.

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

Around 1986/1987 it was.

I think they recorderd a version of the song by Doug Parkinson?

Did that Southern Saints name actually become official?

I've come across a social club pin of the era that said 'Southern Saints Social Club', but little else...

Was that the '...and we're loyal to our mates, 'cos we're the Saints' anthem that was heard around Waverly in the early-mid 1990s?

We're Saints we're proud and we've got a lot of fight
We're on the move you can feel our might
We hit 'em nice and hard
Make 'em drop their guard
and we're loyal to our mates cause we're the Saints

Oh when the Saints go marching in
Oh when the Saints ........

There was another verse as well

maybe with the words stop and drop??

Can't remember exactly

It was Mike Brady for came up with the alternative song, and it was a failure as no-one knew the words and would clap their hands until the chorus and then all start singing "On when the Saints"

Intro:
There is a house in St. Kilda - They call the Rising Sun.
It's been the ruin of many a poor boy, and God, I know i'm one.
There is a house in St. Kilda - They call the Rising Sun.
It's been the ruin of many a poor boy, and God, I know i'm one.

Verse:
The Saints are coming, The Saints are coming!
I say it matters how I try, I realise that there is reply.
The Saints are coming, The Saints are coming!
I say it matters how I try, I realise that there is reply.

Chorus:
The Saints are coming, The Saints are coming!
The Saints are coming, The Saints are coming!
The Saints are coming, The Saints are coming!
The Saints are coming, The Saints are coming!

Aaaah yes! memories, indeed.

Now does anyone remember when International Harvester were our sponsers and they had a tractor bring out the dressing gowns at Moorabbin? That was funny.

Sainter_boy and I worked these words:

There is a ground in Melbourne Town, They call the Telstradome
It's seen the ruin of many a poor team, and now you know you’re one.

Verse 1:
I cry to my daddy on the telephone,
how long now?
Until the Flag unrolls and the cup comes home,
the line went.
But a passion still remains that wont relent,
wont relent.

Verse 2:
I cry to my daddy on the telephone,
how long now?
Until the Flag unrolls and the cup comes home,
the line went.
But a passion still remains that wont relent,
wont relent.

Chorus 1:
The Saints are coming, the Saints are coming.
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply.
The Saints are coming, the Saints are coming.
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply.

Verse 3:
A growing courage floods the deepest grief,
We know now!
And the crowds surge forwards in relief,
They know now!
When the Saints rise up in their belief,
It’s time now!

Chorus 2:
The Saints are coming, the Saints are coming
I say no matter what they try, they realize that there's no reply
The Saints are coming, the Saints are coming
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply
