Pronounce it properly FFS!!!!!!!

Post: # 571205Post LENNY LEADS THE WAY »

It's not Saint Kilda never has been Saint Kilda and never will be Saint Kilda.

This annoys me no end, when i hear Ross Lyon talk about what's best for the Saint kilda football club or when Dal says he love playing for Saint Kilda.

Can some1 start a petition and send it to the club.

How do you pronounce it then?

I usually go with S'Kilda with a slightly silent 't'......But thats just how I say it.....absolutely no reason behind it.

So we're the Snts?

I thought the Saints part would have come from the first part of the suburb name.

Do people really pronounce it Snt Kilda?

Fascinating thread.

Carna Snts!!!

Wouldn't it just be St (as in the start of start) Kilda?

SO it would almost sound like St(e)Kilda

A bit like a sneeze almost if it's fonetik

What do you think St is short for, dumbass?

Like it or not, they mean the same thing. Just cause we put an Australian accent on it does not change the meaning. St is still short for and equal to Saint. So Ross Lyan and Dal are still using it correctly.

Doesn't bother me really, its the same thing. Snt sounds slightly better, but its all apples and oranges

I was not asking any questions, but thanks.

Getting a bit worked up aren't we? My understanding is that 'Snt' Kilda is a bastardisation of Sakilder and hence there is no 'Saint' in the name. But why should that prevent us being called the Saints? Just like Melbourne are called the Demons. It's like saying the 'Sydn' in Sydney is actually pronounced 'Swan'.

With you, mate. It shouldn't matter. Prefer it said Saint Kilda actually, we're the Saints, not the Snts.

I'm not saying that we can't be called the Saints. Or anything else for that matter. But it is a massive (mis)conception that we are called the Saints because of the St infront of Kilda, however you choose to pronounce it. Either way, throughout history St and Saint have been intertwined with our club. And I'm not getting worked up, I think the guy who started the post is a little shirty though...

The name St Kilda first appeared on a Dutch map in 1666.

We won a premiership in 1966.

Next one due 2266?

Cant believe I read the whole thread but there is a '.' after/under the 'ST' on the club crest. Every version of it I've ever seen.

http://saints.com.au/

It doesn't really matter what the history of an island off Scotland is our club is called the Saint (pronounce it however makes you happy) Kilda Saints.
