Surely this is a joke? Even the worst list wouldnt need to turn over 17 players. Take another look at it I suggest.

You should only turnover about 7 players a year. No point in anymore than that. Pretty much pick themselves at this early stage. Probably 3-4 retirements and 3-4 delistings.

I can see Ferg, Gwilt, CJ, McQ (even though he is a rookie), Fizz and Howard all under the microscope in terms of de-listings.

Fizz might have some trade value, as might the Clarke brothers...

Can't think of anyone else that would be of any value to any other clubs that we actually don't require...

Anyway, it's far too early to be talking about all this, let this wait till after our season is over...

Yes, but sometimes that is too many. If all clubs turnover 7 players we end up with pick 96-112 in the draft. It would want to be a VERY DEEP draft to pick up some quality that far down in this day and age. Hird & Grant were picked that late, but well before they had the testing & scrutiny they have today !!

As I posted on another thread today
Some posters on here are over-excited about trade week at the expense of just about everything else. From about the second round of the NAB cup, all that they seem to want to post about is "we will never win with these players in the team, trade them, delist them, sack them, kill them, promote the rookies, etc.). Then, from about round 11, they start threads which suggest that the club should arange trades for these same allegedly hopeless players for good players at other clubs.
It seems as if the cuckoos are early this spring....

It makes for interesting reading , list changes are inevitable and this year teams may bite the bullet and alter their lists more than usual due to the severely compromised drafts in 2009 and 2010.........

Yes its early in the season but its harmless to speculate on list changes at this or any other time of year.....

Season 2024 is where RTB is showing the footy world his grasp of the modern game.

Maguire has had a lot of interest from clubs such as Carlton and Hawthorn in recent seasons, however with his injuries his value wouldve dropped considerably - would prefer to keep him and hope he can eventually return to somewhere near his best.

Fiora has had interest from Port Adelaide in previous seasons. However I remember reading an article on him stating that he is now wants to remain a Victorian.

And Leigh was close (in speculative terms) to being part of the Schneider/Dempster trade with Sydney last year.

CJ at best might get us a box of chocolates from Fremantle.

It's not harmless speculation IMO, it fuels the victimisation and abuse directed towards players like Raph.

It's not interesting, it's stupid and pointless.

The days of trading average quality players for good players or for second round draft picks (or higher) are well and truly gone. Most significant trades are effectively forced trades (either players who a club is desperate to see the back of or players who want out strongly enough to have become a disruptive influence). The result is that clubs don't get good value for these trades: look at the Eagles with Judd for example, or us with Heath Black, or many other similar examples. The very best you can hope for under these circumstances is like for like, and how does that leave you any better off?

All that then remains is delisting players and reaching into the draft lucky dip (including the pre-season draft) or trading away draft picks for rough diamonds (which we did extremely well to get King, Schneider, CG and Dempster: but who predicted or speculated about these trades to any significant extent on Saintsational before they were announced?).

Yes, you can speculate all you like about which players are delisted at the end of the season. Personally, I hope that the ones that are typically named on here all have terrific second halfs of the season and keep their spots. To wish otherwise is almost disloyal IMO.
