Just noticing that this kid is having a blinder in his 2nd game of AFL footy
So...why is it that our draft picks are always "development" players or "looking to the future"
Palmer, Josh Hill, Rioli, Selwood et al..all stepped into AFL footy from Day 1 like they were born to play it. Us?? We have blokes who are "coming along nicely".
We wax lyrical about the development of Gilbo, Geary, Armo etc etc but what cant WE have draft picks that just step into AFL footy like the blokes I named??? They all atm seem to be light years ahead of our blokes. Maybe the end of the season will find them out, but I just thought it ironic that Geary was standing Josh Hill last night. Both playing their third game. Geary had been "OK..not our worst"..Hill?? 30 odd touches, 3 goals and had torn through our midfield several times like he was smashing through wet tissue paper
/rant
Wheres our Rhys Palmer???

It's just luck I guess. Same could be said about the no.1 pick, Gibbs. Some are gonna shine from day 1, some are gonna take a while. Plus Palmer was talked up massively I believe, at least he was in WA. Not quite sure how he slipped to 7, and I'm sure the Dons will regret picking Myers ahead of him, and most likely all 6 teams who picked before them.

You analysis is overly simplistic.saint66au wrote: Palmer, Josh Hill, Rioli, Selwood et al..all stepped into AFL footy from Day 1 like they were born to play it. Us?? We have blokes who are "coming along nicely".
Palmer is a GUN...
Hill hasn't stepped up from day 1 - he couldn't get a game with the Rabble dogs last year, got one game where he didn't deserve one, got read the riot act and has pulled his finger out in the pre-season. plus he's a loose man in defence alot, so its not that hard to dominate...
Selwood from Geelong is a freak, but its easy playing midfield among 3-4 all-australians...
Rioli...please...you could throw most youngsters in the forward pocket and they'd go ok...
again its to do with team-structure and recruiting...
Give our youngsters time...the majority of youngsters rarely play much good footy in their first 2 years.
