Inside 50's.....

Post: # 542523Post saint66au »

...tonight were dead level...yet we lost by 40 points. At 3/4 time he'd actually had 3 MORE inside 50's that the Doggies, yet were 7 points down

A very damning stat IMHO..shows the complete lack of forward structure (never kick it to the "hot spot", always look for a key forward even if he's hemmed in on the boundary with 3 blokes hanging off him) as well as our total inabilty to create any sort of forward pressure at stoppages in our fwd 50.

As well our as our disposal effectiveness. The dogs are known as a good and accurate kicking team. They don't have a huge number of forward targets, but when they do get it in there, they generally make it count.

I'd love to see a field chart of where those I50s were from. I think there were quite a few from around the centre circle, and Goddard had one particular beauty where he kicked it into the fifty from the HBF. Most times that ended up with the ball going to ground, numbers winning out and the Dogs rebounding it easily. The worst of our players in this regard were often our best kicks, who'd back themselves to do the impossible rather than back a teammate.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

The first qtr we were relentless in attacking through the corridor and smashed the bulldogs. The last 3 we stuffed around too much, went wide, then finally when they went to Riewoldt he either had 2-3 on him or we butchered the ball and gave him no chance.
Quick, long and direct it's not that hard surely.

Our forward line has been crap for a year now.

It's only been effective this year against Carltoon and Richmond - crap sides.

i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.

I've been saying for ages.

We haven't kicked 20 goals in a match since '06
