Coaching, a ponderance

Post: # 542513Post SainterX »

Here is something to note.

The last few years, going back to 2000, the premierships have been won by a team with a coach, bar Paul Roos who has tasted the ultimate success as a player at senior level.

2007 - Mark Thompson (with Essendon)
2006- John Worsfold (with West Coast)
2004- Mark Williams (Port Adelaide in SANFL)
2001-2003 Leigh Matthews (with Hawthorn)
2000 Kevin Sheedy (with Richmond)

Does this tell anybody anything? It's a lot easier to win a premiership with a team when you have already had that feeling before, and obviously you would have a fair idea what it takes to win one, or many.

Thoughts please

You are done bud, Blight and Watson were never given the opportunity to grow with the club, as my examples were. Who knows what would have happened, though I do admit Watson would never have gotten us there.

Who cares about premiership experience. There isn't some magical formula that you come to know just because you play in a granny...

BTW Ross was an assistant coach with the swans when they won their premiership...but again, who cares!

The only reason we recruited blight was to ruin his reputation because he beat us in 1997...

What is interesting is that the last 4 coaches to win flags have all had their coaching questioned but their club stuck by them rather than making a simple knee-jerk reaction.

The coach that smashed us last night was also dragged over the coals by his club last off-season.

If we believe Ross is the man to do the job and Ross wants it long term then the last thing we should be doing is going down 'that' path again so soon.

Couldn't agree more. But having said that, isn't it worth the club questioning Ross Lyon in the least? At least maybe some changes will result from that.
