The Big G's Reverse Swing

Post: # 537961Post rodgerfox »

Just a quick thread to highlight the fact that Fraser Gehrig doesn't swing the ball left to right like most left footers - and like most commentators seem to crap on about all the time.

The amount of times I've heard 'And Gehrig's got it in the right pocket for a left footer' etc. etc.

He actually swings it back the other way. Right to left.

That is all.

Interesting point. I think I have seen him do both actually, but more often than not, it is definatly as you say.

Either way, love the big fella. Hope he has a big one on Sat.

Yeah I have seen him do both as well. Either way he is our most reliable kick for goal

He's still probably better at kicking them from the right pocket (or at least he prefers to lead there).

Good point. Buddy Franklin also tends to move the ball back the "wrong" way for the left footer...

i don't know about reverse swing but i remember his reverse mullet of a few years ago and i wish he'd bring it back :D

on the op, roger you are probably right and his natural kick is a "fade" rather than a "draw".

but being a left-footer he's better off kicking from the right pocket regardless of which way he moves them. the angle is better.

Have you noticed if the 'reverse swing' is more pronounced later in the game?
If so, does that mena the other players are 'roughing up' one side of the footy and polishing the other? :)

He swings the ball both ways; he doesn't have control over it.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

I think he does.

He's a great set shot from the 'wrong' pocket for e left footer and leads there purposely for this reason.

Notice how he also plays on quickly form a mark or a free from the 'right' side for a left footer to open the angle? It's because of the reverse swing, that the 'right' pocket for a regular lefty isn't the best pocket for G.
