Geary - Good enough for rising star nomination?
Geary's game today was as good as any debutant, and it's form that will be solid throughout the year. Who else (so far) could take the nomination from him?
Nathan Brown (Collingwood)- Did a job on Pavlich, must be a huge chance.
Paul Stewart (Power) - No idea, didn't see the game, but got ~60 DT points.
Kieran Jack (Swans) - Tagged Montagna who I had as BOG.
Matt Leuenberger (Bris) - Only heard the end of the game, seemed to think he played well, or showed potential, not sure which.
Jake Edwards (Carl) - Didn't notice him in the game, 65 DT points.
Jarryn Geary (St. Kilda) - Played as a floating defender, excellent defensively and provided run. 77DT and 103SC points (SC points place high emphasis on tackles)
Trent West (Geelong) - Did nothing.
Craig Bird (Swans) - Well, most of you saw the match.
Clint Jones not eligible due to age, but wouldn't have gotten a nomination anyway.
So far, It's a three way race between Brown, Geary, and Leuenberger. I expect to redo this thread every week until Jarryn gets a nomination.
Will update when other games are played.

Geary looked switched onand classy!
It was fantastic seeing the boy from Bendigo surviving beautifully against the very disciplined sydney. Again and again his teammates showed their confidence by passing to him often deep in defence.
A very memorable 1st. game from Geary. The ch. 10 brains trust had Geary as Saint Kilda's 4th. best player and 7th. best from both teams.
G O GEARY !
G O SAINTS!

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

He was good for what he did, he always provided an option, he didn't influence the game too much but what can you expect for a first game.
He would have to be a HUGE chance for this week, I would say he will take it out.
I didn't see Brown, but Stewart was pretty good, probably not quite as good as Geary though. Leuenberger is a freak, he will have to go close to taking out the award this year, the next Cox...
Edwards was good at times but average overall, looked out of his league, and as for West and Bird, there is always round 2...

The Collingwood factor could be the diference, hopefully they just get lazy and look at the stat sheet like they normally domad saint guy wrote:Brown will get it. High draft pick, broke even with Pavlich and he plays for Collingwood.

agreed...Quixote wrote:I actually thought he was average.
Seemed like a boy amongst wolves, small and out of his depth.
18 of his 22 possessions were uncontested.
In saying that, can see plenty of potential in the kid though.
Was his 1st game, after all.
Pretty easy getting disposals when you are a loose player in defence........
Just ask Jason Cloke........
Still, that was his position for the night and did it well
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!

McLeod ended up finishing off the game on him and he didn't get near the ball again, I would think that he will still take out the nomination though, bar any acts of brilliance in the last two games...Armoooo wrote:Yeah it is a great match, Hill has done everything right, the dogs seem to have gotten a gem with this kid....

Plenty of young talent still to come. Morton, Rioli, Stokes, Tuck and Weetra about to play. Dempsey, Houli and Jetta tomorrow. Right now, I'd say Hill's the favourite, followed by Gears, followed by N.J. Brown. Keep an eye on Tuck and Houli though. They'll probably be running through the middle with every opportunity to have an impact.
Yeah nah pleasing positive
Melbourne were absolutely pathetic. I cannot stress this enough.Mr Magic wrote:He was pretty good today, but then again the Hawks were playing against no opposition.Quixote wrote:Cyril Rioli
That group has no heart and zero soul. Just completely weak.
Who was that noob Demons poster on BF a year or so back who kept trying to hang it on the Saints?
PS Hawks look dangerous. Kind of remind me of us, circa rnd 1, '04.

The Demons would have performed better if they had fielded their Demonland team.
At least there is no thread from 'BGrownlowBruce on Demonland this week
about how the umpires killed them!

he was laughing at us because we had injuries in the 06 final...
while I don't particularly want teams to suffer injuries, 07 showed melbourne how thin they are and how lucky they were in the 06 final.
st kilda were so far ahead of melbourne, who rode their luck its not funny.
even in 07, melbournes injuries woes were NOTHING like st kilda suffered in 06.

Melbourne were shocking and it seems that there is a bit of tension in the playing group, they weren't playing for each other, they weren't willing to run or tackle and when a player did score (I can't remember who) only one or two players went up to say well done...
Bailey has a big job on his hands, I hope he isn't judged too hashly, he did inherit the worst managed list in the AFL...

i would have to say Josh Hill has it in the bag. Although Geary could be closely behind.
Only down side is that the panel probably will overlook saints v swans match due to the game being termed as a "scrappy, ugly" match, therefore i reckon jarryn might find it a bit tougher to stand out by the judging panel, compared to the doggies match.
