Ch 9 news reported this morning that Wayne Carey has spoken of his battle with Cocaine and alcohol in this weeks New Idea. Anyone else hear this??

March 16, 2008 DISGRACED AFL star Wayne Carey has been paid $180,000 to admit he is a cocaine addict who bashes his girlfriend.

In this week's New Idea, Carey and his girlfriend, model Kate Neilson, posed for the magazine cover. Both said they had a drug habit and would seek professional help.

"We realised, when we do drugs, we're as silly as one another," Carey said. "If we are to go forward together, we have to make those important changes.

"I really think I had to hit rock bottom, which I have now, before I was forced to make these changes."

New Idea, which has recently been under fire for exposing Prince Harry's tour of duty in Afghanistan, will publish the first of a two-part series on Monday.

It is likely to face a massive backlash over its decision to pay the disgraced footballer, especially given its recent "white ribbon" campaign.

In November, New Idea launched the campaign to raise awareness of domestic violence and received the backing of big name stars, including actor Nicole Kidman and journalist Jana Wendt.

But in this "tell-all" story, despite allegations of Carey "glassing" Neilson on one occasion and bashing her on others, the troubled couple say they are still together after recently holidaying in Thailand.

In January, Carey was sprayed with capsicum and escorted by police from his luxury Port Melbourne penthouse after police responded to a call from the fallen footy champion to have two women - Neilson and her flatmate, Sabella Sugar - removed from his home.

When police arrived, he allegedly lashed out at the officers, who sprayed and handcuffed him.

In October last year, Carey was arrested at a Miami hotel after he allegedly smashed a wine glass in Neilson's face.

Neilson has since claimed the incident was sparked by a "simple misunderstanding".

Carey has pleaded not guilty to attacking two police officers at the hotel, after the incident between Neilson and him, and is due to face a Miami court on the charges next month.

In October 2006, Carey allegedly hit himself over the head with a champagne bottle and wrestled with a security guard after an alleged domestic dispute with Neilson in a New York hotel room.

A security guard alleged he saw Carey "smacking" Neilson in their room at the W Hotel and tried to intervene.

Also in late 2006, Neilson ran into an African wildlife reserve full of lions and leopards after a row with Carey, while the pair was on holiday.

In October 2004, Carey allegedly shoved and punched a security guard at a Las Vegas casino during a violent brawl. He was held in custody overnight after the alleged incident.

The pair formally became a couple in 2006 at the same time as Carey split from his wife, Sally, just weeks after the birth of their daughter, Ella.

Despite their public stoushes, Neilson has stayed with Carey, professing her love for him on her MySpace page last year.

"Love, from my point of view - it thrills us, takes your breath away, throws us for a loop," she wrote. "It tickles us pink, makes us green with envy, sometimes causes the blues."

I had a problem with alcohol in my teens and early 20s, I doubt whether I'd get $1.80 for my story from New Idea.

Whats so special about Carey? So he's a pisspot and a coke addict, and his girlfriend has the brains of an under-developed flea because she is still with him after getting glassed etc.

No class morons, both of them, and i wouldn't waste my good hard-earned wanting to know more.

At least Cousins didn't do a "tell-all" to a woman's trash mag. I know which one, Cousins or Carey, I think is the better person.

Aside from the incident in the toilet at Archer's home where he was caught bending over Anthony Stevens wife, when he was apparently supposed one of Anthony Steven's best friends, and all the time he was shagging his wife, another incident almost cost Steven's his life and it's no surprise Cocaine Carey was involved again.

The window that came crashing down on him from the second story, as he stood on the pavement, that sliced his neck and had him within minutes of death, was caused by Carey in an incident, either a fight, scuffle or mucking around with another person, which ended in someone crashing into the window and sending it on to the head of Steven's.

Talk about adding insult to injury.

Then there's the tit grabbing and associating with the criminal underworld with Carey himself providing character evidence, oh the irony of it all.

As for Neilson, she'd have to be on drug's to go out with Cocaine Carey, oh that's right she is!

Carey was a witness for the defence of the morans, found to be unreliable.

North Melbourne made an ex gratia payment to an individual, and paid for that individual to move interstate.

Don't dispute the rest of this post but you are wrong on the Redback Brewery glass incident. Carey's only involvement was that he was a part time owner of the establishment. Don't fall for the scuttlebutt. It simply isn't true.

This incident is not JUST Carey's fault. I'm sure that Kelly Stevens was not being raped. She was a willing participant and ought to shoulder as much responsibility as Carey. Remember that it takes two to tango.

Did he ever develop any kind of a personality though? From what I've heard of him, he has only a limited grasp of the English language. He pretty much personifies machismo. He'll overly criticise a player for anything he sees as half way soft. I can't imagine he'd be a lot of fun to chat to. In the end, was he ever anything more than a dumb thug with a cool job?

This incident is not JUST Carey's fault. I'm sure that Kelly Stevens was not being raped. She was a willing participant and ought to shoulder as much responsibility as Carey. Remember that it takes two to tango.

Sure it does, but at the end of the day Carey, and any man for that matter, should have the integrity to say "no". The fact he didn't is what he has been punished for.
