DARK MCLEOD HANGS OVER THE SAINTS Holmseby
It’s a memory that is etched deep into every Saints fan’s mind.
Andrew McLeod gliding off the half-back side of the MCG square and creating three successive attacks that lacerated St Kilda’s backline.
That imagery has been evoked in the dark recesses of the St Kilda psyche on many occasions since the 1997 Grand Final and as the teams square off in this week’s NAB Cup Grand Final, McLeod still poses a threat to the Saints, albeit in much less do-or-die surroundings than football’s ultimate day.

Very few ‘big fish’ slip through the AFL recruiting net in their teens. St Kilda is hoping late developer Clint Jones turns out to be a real catch, writes RUSSELL HOLMESBY.

Too old at 22 years of age? It’s a line in sport that you expect when referring to a swimmer or a female tennis player, but in 2006 that was the way the football scene looked at Clint Jones.
The AFL’s obsession with fresh young faces of 17 and 18 meant that even Jones’s imposing record at the level below AFL could not earn him a place on a senior list.
