Gardiner may miss semi-final

SAINT Michael Gardiner's place in tonight's NAB Cup semi-final against Essendon is in doubt after his father had a heart attack.

The former All-Australian ruckman, who is yet to play a home and away game with St Kilda after being sacked by West Coast midway through 2006, was last night deciding whether to return home following his father's collapse.

Gardiner, 28, is on the comeback trail from a horror run of injuries that have restricted him to just 36 games in his past five seasons.

A WA Health Department spokeswoman last night said Renny Gardiner was in a stable condition.

My advice would be ( and I'm sure Michael's really interested) GO HOME NOW. I've been there, I didn't, and I've always regretted it.

I think in the end its totally his call, but I'd go and be with my Dad.

Even if it was a GF, family comes first.

There has been a lot of sense in this thread. I can only assume the club will encourage him to do the same.

Well a caller to SEN (Mark Doran's show) said he just saw Gardi and Benny boy walking in the water at Port Melbourne for about 10 minutes before they left and went back to Gardi's place in Port Melbourne. So unless he is taking a later flight this afternoon/evening it would appear that he is staying in town.

I do know that Benny-boy was planning to watch the game tonight, so the 'report' on SEN is at least true that he (beeny-boy) is in Melbourne. As to the rest of the 'report' who knows?

I don't think I've seen so much sensible stuff in a Saintsational thread before.

Kudos to all the previous posters.

Family does come first.

Must be true if a SEN caller reported it. they are only slightly more reliable than a Lada.

Are we going to trade Gardiner?

Don't want cousins playing for the saints too old and too much baggage, we all sa how good Carey was after a year out of the game.

Who cares what he wants, it's what the saints want that matters.
