Maguire ready to go for 2008
20 January 2008 Sunday Herald Sun
Jackie Epstein

MATT Maguire is confident his 2008 comeback will be better than last year's version.

It can only be a good sign he is running laps and completing an intense cross-training program only two months after treatment for stress fractures in his left foot.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..
Maguire has been working with the Saints' new doctor, Tim Barber, who came across from the Victorian Institute of Sport.

Recently Maguire cut a lonely figure in the rehab group with the list healthier than it has been in years.

The defender, who hopes to become more versatile by playing on talls and smalls, is aiming to be fit for Round 1.

I love his last comment:
"Definitely his message is getting through," he said.

"It's a very good game plan and one that we think will be very productive for us this year."
:)

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

That's interesting that he said that he hopes to become more versatile by playing on talls and smalls.

I always thought he would be too slow to play on smaller quicker players but we'll have to wait and see.

I can't believe the Hun had a story about the Saints, must be a slow news week in Bomberland.

Im not certain but i read that harvey, one of the fisher boys, goose, rixy and a few others were going to go to portsea for the classic. But i couldn't find any of their names bar goose in the finishes. I saw rixy's but his initial was correct, so unless some of the boys used there last names and changed their initial im dont know where they all finished.

Goose got 86th in the men's open, about 6 or 7 mins after the winner.

I saw finishes for Rix, Leigh fisher, Jason Blake, Charlie gardiner, Fergus and Jack watts and Nick stone
- didn't see harvey but thought he was playing golf,

Stewie's time was ok-
and did someone mention Sean Ralphsmith the other week- he came in mid pack.

With our draw this year we need to be all up and runnung by round one if possible so hopefully he is fit for the first game.

rather have him fully fit and in form for the run home, with no repeats of last year where he was ready for round one.... and then....

All I was saying if their ready to go in round one we must play them. If not we play as soon as they are ready and because of the draw hopefully that is sooner rather than later.

IMO if goose can keep fit, we'll see a real AA CHB for the saints.

maybe

I remember in the bloodbath when st kilda got butchered by collingwood in the early noughties, and the filth were having a crack at us, goose really stood tall, he was about 17 or 18 at the time.

Also took some great marks in his early years.

I also vividly remember watching him run down johncock and tackle him when 2dicks was running at full pelt, again early in his career.

he's had a lot of unfortunately injuries, but while he's not my favourite saint, he's one I've watched probably more than others over the years, never seen him squib, love his attack on the ball and the man, and love the way he stands up to the 'big men' and loves the way he intimidates the opposition.

I've heard plenty of criticism of goose, and perhaps some of it is well founded, but I love watching him play when he's on song.

its little wonder when his contract was up, a fair few clubs went with big $$ chasing him.

that didn't surprise me either. they are not fools and recognise a potential AA chb.

I'm just hoping matty can make a few of his dectractors eat humble pie this season.

many forget just how effective and inspiring player he can be when fit and firing. he's one of the keys to our chances in 2008
