training report wed 9th

Post: # 508141Post spiral2 »

good session today, pretty different from the last one I saw, much less fitness and competitive work and more skills
again there was a lengthy warm up component and then mainly kicking and ball movement drills. skills were pretty good on the whole.

Modified

Roo and BJ.
did some running and a reasonable amount of agility work on the far side of the ground. this involved lots of sharp movements in a small space, working quickly forwards, backwards and sidewards between cones (not those kind of cones). Roo looked quicker at this. Not sure whether this was some recovery/test thing or training for leading. John Barker ran the session I think.
(BJ ran laps at the end, as noted on WoM, about 1min 30sec per lap).

Bally -
did warm up, some lap running on his own and some light skills (not much kicking, only short distances).

Goose -
running only I think

Baker, G, Howard, Gram
Did light skills at one end of the ground (not static, bit of running)
Baker had one hand heavily taped, didn't seem to hinder him

Kosi, Gardiner, King
didn't participate in main skills session. a bit of running

L Fisher & Attard
static skills, some short kicking. attard seemed to move around fine though no running. not sure what is up with L Fisher?

Lenny
came and went, not sure what he was doing, maybe a small amount of running...?

Max
not sure if he was there...?

Main list draftees weren't there - McEvoy, Connors, Steven
LVR, Mini, Eddy were there from the rookies but didn't see Khan, Chivers or Miles (I think?)
A couple of blokes were there that I hadn't seen before...two tallish guys - one was being called Jack (though wasn't Jack Steven) and had a build/style a bit like Andrejs Everitt, had blondish shaggy hair....?
arrived late and sounded croaky, Ross asked him why he was late, "were you out last night?". didn't catch the response but Ross seemed fine with it.
The other guy I thought was Luke Miles but checking profile now I don't think so. Think he was being called Glen? (wasn't Chivers). Was a good size, slightly awkward kicking, was slow in the 200m run (last or second last I think). Wore red boots (didn't seem to help).
Are they scholarship kids??? They were fully decked out in saints gear.

for the fashion/sponsor watchers, they were training in new Jeld-Wen emblazoned gear. looked pretty good, lots of black.

not much else to report really, good session by most, skills were pretty good for this time of year, most players working hard. Ross had a press conference, story on saints site.

no worries SaintBot,
re the kids I dunno, scholarship kids don't seem to match up with the names I heard them called
the shaggy haired guy was definitely being called Jack...
both were pretty tall, 'Jack' was 190+ for sure

gilbo looked good, went hard in the drills, seemed to cover the ground quickly. kicking was a bit hit and miss but more hit than miss from what I saw.
armo looked good too, nice kicking and pretty enthusiastic. it wasn't a taxing session so hard to infer how he is going fitness wise.
geary was sharp and trained hard as did eddy. seems like those two are pretty switched on for this year (judging by training I've seen, promotion of geary and time trial results). eddy's kicking still looks a bit suss to me but I'm sure he's working on it.

Like many...I have high hopes for Geary in 2008...in terms of him emerging and getting some games in the seniors...

nope, twice I've been since the announcement, twice no show
maybe it's only a part time gig, couple of sessions a week?

It would be great if Geary could force his way into the team, we haven't seen too many rising star nominations in recent years...

Could also be AIS/U17 kids. Shaggy haired kid called "Jack" could be a kid Griffiths ?? from Mitcham/Eastern Rangers who is said to be a gun CHF/FF !!

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Nothing really spiral2 - it's the 'Shock' icon, I quite like it and use it on just about everything, sort of like a sig -
