you going in and out on the same day eastern?

maybe find other sainters going the same way and share a Taxi
BUT and its a BIG but

the traffic to the Brisbane airport at busy times can be HOrrendous- I sat in traffic for an hour for what seemed like a short trip

the airtrain would be more direct despite the cost

- wonder if the Qld supporter group could lay on a shuttle :) sing the song at full tilt .

can imagine you in a bloody taxi eastern

slow down, indicators on,look right look left look right, slow down approaching intersection driver, give yourself plenty of room behind car infront, check revision mirror,do not overtake on doublelines etc etc etc

after craping on for 20mins about road rules & regulations you realise the driver has not uttered a word, you check his id on the dash...loewe & behold his names abdul an immigrant from arabia, been in the country 3 weeks & doesnt know a word of english  ....you would have the poor barstard so confused he'd be ready to jump on the next plane back to his homeland

I agree with the comment re: traffic out of the airport. It's a killer for cab fares.

But . . . IF the traffic isn't too bad, a cheaper option with a group is to catch a cab to Eagle Junction & then catch the train to South Bank from there ($10-15 cab ride and then the train is $5.40/person return from there). It's a fair hike up Vulture St to the ground but I believe there's buses (cab ride from the station would only be $10).

TBH, with 2 or more people I'd be tempted to catch the cab to the ground as the cost would be comparable to the Airtrain (give or take $20).

just cab it mate...it would be 30 dollars or so each way...

you might get a little bit of traffic along the river on the eay in and out but its nothing compared to melbourne traffic

also tell me where you are seating so i dont have to be surrounded by a bunch of bogans yet again:P:P

so that would be $60 return- give or take a traffic jam

Hey SP 2008, when was the last time you travelled to and from the airport?
The traffic is a joke, have you seen the traffic lights on the roundabout, what a joke.
I live on the northside and a few years ago it would take an hour there and back, now in 2007-8 I can bank on being gone 2+ hours. If I have to go there during peak hour I will leave 2-45 hours before I am due to fly and I live 20k from the airport.
You might stike it good but anytime from 6.30am-9.30am gridlock, then 3.30pm - 6.30pm same
I avoid it like a Collingwood supporter

thats what we struck goody though we'd left time for a coffee at the riverview but decided no we'd wait and spent the next hour getting from there to the roundabout,

no coffee- cold drink and onto the plane.

Hey guys, sorry I can't really help you with this. Being from the Gold Coast, I don't know about travel times in Brissie much. I do feel a train would be the way to go as I know traffic around the Gabba can be horrific. However it is quite a walk from the station, but I think they run buses. Not sure what we as a supporter group are doing with functions yet as its a bit early. Sorry I can't help more.

Yep the airport run is an absolute nightmare since they installed traffic lights on the roundabout! Would definately recommend the airtrain into central station then jump on a free bus to the Gabba. (just need to show your ground ticket).

Does anyone know why they call it the "Airtrain"???

Answer: Because it only carrys air!

(actually quite a true story - I caught it a few times in 2002/2003 and often there were only 5 or less people per carriage!).

Since all the dramas started at the roundabout they have recorded a 400% growth in usage!

wow!

So that means there are now 20 people per carriage, which whilst is not standing room only, may take up most of the seats!!!

The Airtrain is a good reliable service and fairly quick....but the taxis are quite good if there are a few of you....unlike Melbourne, the drivers are almost always Aussies and speak perfect English and know where they are going!

Aussies???

hahah, maybe during the day, but not after hours!!!

The taxi service is ok to the city, as we don't have the same shuttle bus as Melbourne. would recommend whatever way you prefer to get to city and then bus straight to gabba, about a quarter of all buses will go past the gabba if you are in the city, but you should read the signs obviously

Agree with you there, Batnoe.

Last cab I caught from Brissy Airport was driven by a gentleman from the Ivory Coast who was bi-lingual. Unfortunately I couldn't understand either language.

He was however a practising Catholic as he was able to join in on the Hail Mary's my wife and I were reciting from the back seat as we sped through the city on the wrong side of the road.

spoke to alocal today who said she thought she would avoid" THE roundabout " and catch a 6 am plane-- THERE was an hour wait to get through that section at 4 in the morning.

I'm going up & back in the one day. Leaving Melb @ 9.05am. Arr Bris 11.10am. Leaving Bris 5.50pm. Arr Melb 8.10pm.

With the game being a 1.10pm start we will have plenty of time to catch the airtrain to Southbank & return. I read it is a bit of an uphill walk from station to Gabba. Who knows, I might even work off a millimeter or two from my ever expanding gut !!
