If this is true it may well prove to be equally as good a recruiting coup as any other on-field/off-field appointment in the last 3 months.

Simon Madden is considered to be the greates ruckman of the last 30 years and is held in very high esteem as a Ruck Coach.

Kosi, Rix, McEvoy and LVR will only benefit from his tutelege.

well he should be a fair bit more useful than Honeybun who hardly ever seemed to be mentioned/appeared at St.Kilda!

Honeybun did have CFS, so I assume that effected his output/input. I haven't met him, but he sounds like a nice bloke and I wish him well.

Glad we got Simon Madden, not his Labor dufus brother who switched to the beggars (and then to Bracks!).

Simon Madden was the player that Kosi should be. An exceptionally good ruckman / forward. He is an excellent coach apparently - so this is yet another good move by the Saints. I'll be very interested in how Kosi goes now.

St Kilda is poised to appoint Essendon legend Simon Madden as ruck coach for 2008. Madden, the Dons' games record-holder and arguably the best ruckman/forward of all time, is expected to begin with the Saints when pre-season training resumes in January.

Madden's imminent appointment follows the addition of veteran ruckman Steven King and teenager Ben McEvoy to St Kilda's ruck division.
Should be a good move ...

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

He sure did - the similarities in physique, and style with Kosi is important. I'm sure that Kosi will see Madden as the benchmark of what he needs to achieve. Tall, athletic, powerful mark and an excellent kick. A superb Tap ruckman - if Kosi really develops his game under Madden's guidance, then we will have a very potent player who can swing a game on his own. Bear in mind, Kosi can already do that at times - just not consistently.

This is great news. RL has really identified the areas that needed improvement & has gone all out to rectify the problems. Momentum just keeps building. I want to be caught up in this avalanche & slide all the way through to September.

Its good news but ruck coaches swap clubs more than I do in poker so lets not get carried away.

Might not be a bad things, gives our ruckmen an opportunity to learn from many different perspectives...

The only down side I can see is that we don't have a good record with former Essendon players in coaching positions at St Kilda!

Here's hoping for a change.

Apart from his ruck coaching abilities....Madden with his great record and status will add a little extra credibility and oomph around the club...

Van Reehan and McEvoy will benefit greatly.....as will no doubt Kosi and Rix......and then to a lesser extend Gardiner and King (only because they are already cpable ruckman, but anyone will always benefit froma good coach).

Kosi will bea very very interesting one to watch for apart from injuries I have long thought that his game was held back ruckwise in that he seemed to go about his ruckwork very poorly.

At bounce ups he often stands in the wrong postions and his tap work is quite ordinary. If Madden can really sharpen him up in these aspects his impact on the game could increase enormously.

Don't get me wrong.....when Kosi is fit I really rate him asa power forward and for his around the ground work and that fora big guy his footskills are very good...but his ruckplay has in the main been ofa low standard.

Back to MvEvoy...what a boost for him....originally joininga club often laughed at for it's rucks whereas now in his formative years (lets hope Madden styas more than one) he will get to work with Madded.....as well asa expereienced old hand in King.

Wow!

The board sure are serious about getting the support people and facility in place to back the playing group.

Another great step in the right direction IMO
