Some really interesting observations from Harves

Players don't really take much (if any) notice of the boardroom squabbles.
Just hopes it's sorted out quickly.

Hasn't spoken to Burkey about the boardroom issues although Burkey has called him a couple of times (don't read anything negative into this)

Had a chat with RL and is very confident with RL's plans - expects us, with a reasonable run of injuries, to be right up there challenging for the premiership next season. Was very complimentary to RL and his plans. Said RL was a pretty much black/white person and calls it as it really is, which is why he asked him if he was still of value next season.

Said that the core group (the nucleus) have still got 5-10 years of success in front of them.

Thought RL would be going for youth rather than looking to replace G-Train with another forward as that's where he believes they are going to concentrate on next. Harves thought we were o.k. for forwards even with G-Train retiring.

7 yr old said keep going dad
9 yr old couldn;t have cared and may have preffered he stop
2 yr old too young to care
Danielle- he's been telling her its the last for four years- she understands him

Loves training and it doesn't worry him-
IF Ross had given any indication he was taking up someones spot or holding the team back he would have stopped

the team worry about onfield and don;t concern themselves with off field

Brownlow forecast- Geelong player maybe Bartell
Premiers- Geelong But Roos to beat Port

relaxed about his decision from the sound of it, just wanted to make it in the clear light of non game time.

It will be much harder to talk him into going on for 2009 after we win the Flag next season, but maybe the lure of 'back to back' will be enough?

He is obviously very confident in RL, the coaching panel and what they may be able to deliver in 2008.
Lets hope his team mates have the same confidence.

re listening to this morning press conference I was taken by how much faith Harves had in the coaching staff and his trust in their word- If they said enough he would have taken that.

Fraser also expressed similar views when he was interviewed after the last game.

Why would people be surprised with his support for the coach?

(that's not implying anything before the usual suspects jump in)

Harv's is the consummate team player and it's why I found the Alves rumour mongering so distasteful.

Hypothetical...

Harvey has a good solid year averaging say 20 touches a game, and we climb back into the finals....have some promising youngster developing like Armo and pick 9, yet we get knocked out in the prelim or the semi....

Do you think he might play on with the lure of a flag in 09....?

Nah, more likely we will be convincing him to play on for the 'back to back' premeirship in 2009
