with the large number or 'retirements' I was wondering what supporters feel is basic or preffered when a player announces their retirement
some of the differances in this season;
Players who 'retire' when it is obviously not their choice- Gasper and Lappin
the year long emotional finale - ie Hird- ( which too me seemd to almost drain Hird)
subtle But give last effort- Fraser
servants of clubs who don't feel worthy- forget the fan fare- Thommo
take the praise But avoid the hype- Archer
Leave after the year ends - ie Aussie and Frankie last Year and who knows how many this year.
Rating the retirement?

I think Frase did it beautifully.
Obviously decided during (or before) the season, kept it to himself and went out like a king when the job was done.
Served his time, didn't demand special consideration, and didn't bugger off 'on a high' mid-season leaving the club in the lurch.
He was gracious enough to give us a chance to farewell him - it is obvious he isn't one for the pomp and ceremony, but as a fan you can feel a bit cheated if a beloved player goes out between seasons with no chance for an ovation.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.
Much as I loved the emotion leading up to Burkey and Stewie's last games..and I love the jumper handover, I thought Frasers farewell was truly special.
Noone really knows when he made the decsion, but just quietly tells the playing group on the day..then what does he do? During the warmup he finds his lil 7 y/o fan in the Cheer Squad and makes a point of telling her too. Magical stuff. The fairytale goal at the end was perfect and the jumper presentation just as emotional as the ones to the players that accompanied Burkey and Stewies last games.
Reckon Thommo didnt mind at all being a bit in the background...dare say he was as moved as the rest of the playing group semed to be
