Another SOS special.

Kid can play. I think he’s an upgrade on the delisted Ollie Hotton. I’m liking what the club is doing. Very thought out selections.

His highlights package looks good. Good runner. Left footer. Clean handball. Plays for the team. Kicks a goal. I reckon he was snuffed to get delisted. Kid played well this year.

It's an odd decision. He's not good enough to play on the inside and we have enough players who can run and play half back or wing. Getting a bit weird now with SOS targetting another ex Carlton player.

The positives I see with the selection is that it costs us zero in terms of draft capital. Plus he's young, has a good attitude and is a good athlete.

Here's a comparison between Carroll and Dow for season 2024.

Reading the stats looks like we have got a poor man’s Paddy Dow

His stats aren't particularly accurate as he was a sub in 9 of his 15 matches.

He averaged just over 15 touches a game in his six full games.

Stats are just a garbage way of judging a players ability without seeing him play.

He can run, he's 21, great pick up for nothing.

How many other Ex-Carlton players can we recruit.
There must be some more floating around.
We are a team screaming for A grade talent and we bring in another bog average Carlton reject to go along with Dow and Stocker.
We do not have a shortage of average midfielders, particularly ones we can't get the ball.
It is the one area we are well stocked.
We pretty much pushed out Membrey, a club stalwart, so we can get games into untried kids and bring in a young player who has failed at another club.
This just screams of a team with no plan except to stick around midtable.
I am surprised SOS didn't try to bring in his kids.

He is super quick and has a beautiful left foot, but what appeals to me is his evasiveness in traffic, he has a beautiful sidestep. Kid can definetly play and is very courageous.

Those rolling their eyes about us picking up a Carlton player should understand that this is Dalrymple's call, not Silvagni's.

The kid is 21. He looks well balanced and is quick. Missed most of 2023 through injury. There's enough there to like from what I've seen. Someone mentioned he's an upgrade on Ollie Hotton and that seems right to me.

The negative Nellies should at least have a look at him before writing him off.

Was considered a big slider in his draft year with phantom drafts having him ranked between 13 and 21. Kevin Sheehan was a huge fan.

He's a smooth mover with a hint of Nick Dal Santo about him

Carlton have a superb mid field starring Cripps and Walsh. Hard for understudies to get a look in.
They also have to fit Curnow, Cripps, McKay, De Konning, Walsh and the AA fullback into their salary cap. Plus it's arguable Voss isn't particularly astute. Carroll may well be a very smart pick up.
Stocker has been good for us and Dow was looking real good once he started to get serious fitness late in the season after serious injury.
Can't argue about the price. All the negativism above seems knee jerk contrarianism.

Deja Vu.

I couldn’t pick Carroll in a line up, and don’t recall seeing him play so I won’t comment on his ability.

However I have been concerned around SOS arriving at the Saints and what input he has in recruiting.

Drafting of first round picks during his tenure at GWS was horrendous, not much better at Carlton.

At Carlton he flooded them with failed GWS rejects and I am concerned he is doing the same at St Kilda with Dow and now Carroll.

I hope it is coincidence, and I hope Carroll is a player, I just don’t rate SOS at all.

On the flip side his Christian name is Jack which helps significantly in getting a game at the Saints.

This wouldn't have been Silvagni's call. Dalrymple and Lyon would have the final say.

The Silvagni thing is a conclusion too easy to jump to

His drafting at GWS was incredibly good what are you on about? He selected almost all of their current champion players. Besides those two years where he went a bit crazy with the GWS rejects, his record at Carlton was also tremendous, he turned that club around from where it was as one of the worse performing sides of the 2000's to where it is today. Cripps, Curnow, Mackay, Walsh and Weitering are all among his personal picks. Grossly underrated list manager.

SOS didn't even recruit Carroll to the Blues, happened the year after he left

Would he have been a better pick up if he was delisted by Geelong or Collingwood?

Stocker has basically been a starting 22 player since he was picked up by us. Hardly a bust.

I’m not sure what people are expecting to be picked up for free.

Thanks for the extra intel. This along with your other posts has given me a lot more optimism.

Also...the information regarding Carroll playing as the sub gives a better perspective

Silvagni left Carlton in 2019, Carroll was picked in the 2020 draft so Silvagni wouldn't have recruited him at Carlton in the first place so lets stop clutching at straws

Maybe it was the work of our insińder at Carlton, Jack Silvagni, or SOTSOS. He's already landed us Caminitti.

Let's hope JC (now that's an omen if I've ever seen one) turns out like the Hammer in terms of potential and being "Ready to go". Cost nothing in terms of trade. Freebie.

He certainly sounds like an upgrade for Bonner.

Absolute bulls***!
Name the players he picked that make up almost all of their current champions.

SOS was only at GWS for three years and here is a list of his incredibly good first round picks.
He then recruited 9 (yes 9) former GWS players to Carlton.

Yes there's a handful of good picks on the journey, but overall the first round recruiting during his tenure at GSW was the worst in AFL history and poor to average at Carlton, not to mention taking GWS fringe players.

GWS
#1 Jon Patton
#1 Tom Boyd
#2 Jono O'Rourke
#3 Dom Tyson
#3 Lachie Plowman
#4 Jarred Picket
#5 Matt Buntine
#5 Will Setterfield
#6 Caleb Marchbank
#6 Paul Ahern
#10 Liam Sumner
#12 Kristin Jacksh
#14 Aidan Corr

Carlton
#3 Dow
#4 Stocker (gave up #4 for #19)
#6 Sam Petrevski-Seton
#10 O'Brien
#17 Brodie Kemp
#19 Blaine Boekhurst

Then SOS doubled down on a swag of the guys who couldn't cut it at GWS and recruited them to Carlton, where he got the arse BTW despite being a club playing legend and part of the Carlton Royal family.

Great player, probably a ripping bloke but very ordinary history at GWS and Carlton.

Stocker was at the Saints before SOS, so totally irrelevant to this topic.

But was a huge bust for SOS at Carlton as he gave up #4 to get him.
(traded future #4 for #19 to get stocker)
