Re: Players linked to StK
I don't want any of those players we're supposedly linked to. The point is to move forward, not go backward

Re: Players linked to StK
Doesn’t it depend on the cost?
Tomlinson replaces Battle if Schoenmaker surpasses Tomlinson he plays VFL as depth
McCrae would replace Ross and add depth, experience and ball winning ability to our mids
Sheil - I would only take if Crouch is delisted due to injury.
If Garcia surpasses Jones or Sheil - they play VFL as depth
Van Es
Allison
Replaced by draft picks

All would come on decent pay for back up and VFL.
McCrae the only one I would consider and only if he came with a gift.

I thought Shiel was a definite no that we were chasing him?
Macrae is likely though Geelong apparently now in the hunt

If we get high quality mids for chips, that offer mentoring capacity to our youth in the vfl and maybe if we're lucky they smash out 1 or 2 years of top AFL form, who's laughing?
Us.
They're not the future of the club but cogs needed to build. We see what happened to King & others without elite older KPP to mentor, shield and guide.
The ultimate example is Kangas...they dropped all their legends to save a few quid and found themselves with no onfield presence to teach/model culture and mentor the youth.

Re: Players linked to StK
We have enough experience on our list. We're not retiring or delisting them all at the same time like North Melbourne did
We're not about to drop to 17th or 18th on the ladder if we recruit youth instead of washed up 31 year olds
No to Jack McCrae and no to Dylan Shiel
If Hawthorn kept their older midfielders like Liam Shiels, Tom Mitchell and Jaeger O'Meara they'd never be in this situation right now.
Their young mids along with guys like Moore and McDonald have thrived with the responsibility and with games experience
I don't want my club to stay in 7th-14th position on the ladder for another 5 years

Shiel can get stuffed! He turned his nose up at our offer for Essendon, FFS.
I’m on the fence with McCrae. Tomlinson would at least cost next to nothing.

McCrae -Yes, especially if Crouch has to pull the pin.
No to the others.

Re: Players linked to StK
Sheil is not linked to St Kilda. Morris, Edmund and Ralph have all separately reported we are not interested and the deal won’t go ahead.
I am completely against the signing of macrae. He’s salary has been reported at $950k a year over the next 3 seasons. He’s barely best 22 at st Kilda has been very poor for years now. Should only pursue if the dogs are paying some of his salary or where getting a decent draft pick for taking his salary off the books.

Re: Players linked to StK
Let’s assume for a moment that Brad Crouch recovered half way through 2024 and that he played as a midfielder for the last 3-4 games. What’s the point? Why hold back the advancement of the team to see if Crouch hopefully gets back his 2023 formNick DalSanto Claus wrote: ↑Tue 10 Sep 2024 9:54pm McCrae -Yes, especially if Crouch has to pull the pin.

Same thing with McCrae. We are hoping he regains his old form. Might as well just hang on to Seb Ross and hope he does as well.
Marcus Windhager, Liam Henry, Hugo Garcia, Paddy Dow and Mattaes Phillipou along with other guys will be denied midfield time if we recruit McCrae
It’s a fantasy to believe that McCrae is the missing piece that gets us to top 4 and a chance at a premiership. If he was 28 maybe I’d consider it, but he really has been left behind as far as being an impact player in 2024. Watch his last few senior games for the Bulldogs. McCrae is washed up. He’s cooked. He’s slow
Paddy Dow (*better clearance numbers) and Marcus Windhager are better as inside mids and we have players like Liam Henry and Wilson and others who will provide a lot more on the outside.

Re: Players linked to StK
Are they rejects? They requested trades
Mason Wood was a reject, as were many players we’ve picked up from other clubs.
Look at the reasons they are on the outer, can they add value
We will address the midfield imo
Ross keeps mentioning it

Re: Players linked to StK
List strategy will be interesting.
4 live picks in draft:
#7 + # Battle + # 24 + # 35
Perhaps 2 X rookies = 6 players
Already gone:
Battle, Allison, Campbell, Van Es, Ross, Bonner = 6 players
If they want to let Paton, Crouch and Hayes or any others go, they need to replace them.
So DFA or a trade for McCrae for example that does not cost a live pick might be the strategy that tops up the list.

If we are looking at McCrae, why aren't we also looking at Luke Parker ? You'd think he'd prefer us to Norf ......

Because we picked up an extra player..Hall ..in the mid season draft we have to delist one more than we can pick up.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Wed 11 Sep 2024 9:20am List strategy will be interesting.

Re: Players linked to StK
Hard to get too excited about any of these players listed above.
I still think we probably need a top up of 1-2 players.

Re: Players linked to StK
B.M, for once I totally agree. Only player I’m willing to throw picks at is Bailey Smith. Even then I don’t like the prick and he doesn’t want to come.
Luke Parker is interesting. He’s a solid player.

What about Caleb Daniel?
Great kick.
As long as the price isn’t too high I think he would definitely add value to the list.
