Darcy Wilson
I’ve bashed B.M enough this weekend (sorry old fella) but we got a lot in common in that we have a vested interest in Darcy Wilson.
Good write up about him on AFL.com:
“Since the suspension of Harley Reid, the Telstra AFL Rising Star award has looked like Ollie Dempsey's to lose, but don't rule out Darcy Wilson. The young Saint won the round six nomination after a solid start to the year and it looks like he's got a bit left at the finish. Wilson's 25-disposal, two-goal performance was a massive factor in St Kilda’s win over Geelong on Saturday, on the eve of his 19th birthday. With one round to go, Wilson's numbers are almost identical to Dempsey's and he's now shown he can influence games on his own. Another impressive outing against Carlton next week might not see him take over the mantle of favourite, but a big finish to the year will have him at the forefront of the judges' thinking. - Howard Kimber”
Future is looking bright for st Kilda. That’s possibly two players since RTB took the helm again that have polled near the top of the Rising Star Award.

Re: Darcy Wilson
The fact that Darcy Wilson had a break-out game in his 22nd appearance for St Kilda is testimony to his strong chance to win the RS award this year. We all marveled at Mattaeas Phillipou not missing a game in his debut year, but I reckon Wilson is the better player of the two.
Arguably the most impressive midfielder St Kilda has drafted since Robert Harvey and he could turn out to be even better than our club legend! In Harvey's first 2 seasons (1988 & 1989) he played just 16 games, Wilson's already played 22, which suggests he is much more mature and skilled than Harvs at the same age.
Develop a bit more bulk in the off-season and he could well become that midfield bull the team has needed to dominate centre clearances. A potential excitement machine!

Re: Darcy Wilson
Wasn’t Harves drafted as a 16 or 17 year old kid? I reckon it’s foolish to make comparisons with a 300 game hall of famer.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Mon 19 Aug 2024 1:12pm The fact that Darcy Wilson had a break-out game in his 22nd appearance for St Kilda is testimony to his strong chance to win the RS award this year. Personally I thought that B.M was right at the time and Wilson did need a rest. Not withstanding his outstanding game on the weekend, he hasn’t been playing well for the past 6 weeks. We can all say that the Pou is a gun and the club has been vindicated, but gee whiz, he was gifted more games than I can recall any kid ever has been. Banger obviously wasn’t gifted games in the seniors in his first couple of seasons

Re: Darcy Wilson
Wilsons performance dropped through the middle of the season to the point he probably warranted a spell. No issue with the pushing him through though.

Wilson is a fantastic pick up, but let's not burden him with comparisons to Harvs.

Re: Darcy Wilson
Harvey at the start of his 3rd season was almost exactly the same age as Darcy Wilson on debut. Harvey averaged 25 disposals in 1990 compared to Wilson's 15 this year.

Re: Darcy Wilson
In all this who is the best player and trying to compare Darcy with other players over the years may amuse some people but the whole thing underminds him and the comparisons in my opinion - but whatever, it's said to be a free world.
Nevertheless, his game yesterday does call for a new thread in his homour.
