Jack Higgins appreciation thread!!!

Post: # 2069151Post skeptic »

One of the first to cop it when things go wrong and brings it on himself at times having earned the nickname Missy.

However… Higgins has easily been our best and most consistent forward for the last 2 years.

Game today hasn’t gotten a huge amount of praise but kicked 3 in the second half effectively getting us back into the game before he kicked the sealer.
1 goal last week
5 goals vs Bris and Brisbane, 2 more against GC

Kid is a gun and IMO would be a highly praised considered elite player if his set shots were a touch more reliable

Love him

A huge game from him today, the tackle on Lewis Melican to win a holding the ball free and goal was a turning point.

Luv that little guy.
cheated death with a brain operation and is now playing for the side that he loved as a kid
He’s living the dream and when he belts that jumper after a goal, we are living it with him

I was cursing him when he burnt the open Saints player (not sure who) towards the end of the third and instead had a snap, lucky he put thru! 😅

I'm one of his biggest critics, but I will acknowledge that he went very well today. As did Sharman, about whom I am also often critical.

Neither of these guys are A-graders IMO, but they could potentially get there if they can deliver the good stuff more consistently. I would see Higgins as having more potential to do this than Sharman, although I have always like Sharman's attitude: if he doesn't make it, it won't be because he didn't give his all.

Cost us when he was unfairly suspended for what many have been cleared.

Both he and Kings ridiculous suspensions cost us at least two games.

Hahaha,

I remember a rd1 win vs GWS a few years back when Butler ran into F50 and had a shot burning three Saints forward of him that were all free including someone in the sqaure. I was soooooooo close to throwing the remote at the TV but it was the cleanest on the run goal one would ever hope to see.

I thought he deserved votes for his role, in the 3rd quarter especially
Combining with Henry and Pou, etc -- just a fantastic game-turning effort effort.

Definitely an enigmatic player

Sometimes unbelievable, sometimes frustrating

Like most small forwards, hot and cold. Gets out the back a lot, and can sniff a goal.
Good to see him tackle yesterday- not his strength normally

His kicking is not up to AFL standard. Marking is very good for a small.

You’ve summed him up pretty well IMO. Basically, he’s Milney without the kicking chops.

With Higgins you get what you see - noting his season start a couple of years back had him in AA talk before injury.

So that first shot on goal on Sunday which looked as if he had kicked a flat football!!!

He leads our goal kickers this year - and I can't see anyone going past him.

A very handy pick up from Richmond.

I will high-jack this thread to mention Clark, who was instrumental again Sunday.

He may spend periods on the "pine" given his injury history including again this season and as he runs into full match fitness but, when on the Park, is among our most valuable

He just gets into the right spot at the right time to push the ball in the direction of our goals.

Love Jack but sometimes I wonder whether the injury from the scar on his noggin influences some of his goal kicking choices sometimes, which causes me to swear.

I’m very disappointed with Hunters output!

Has not reached 20 possessions in any game he’s played this year.

Time on ground?

As he runs into match fitness after multiple season's of injury disruption including this year (he has only played 5 games at AFL level)

Perhaps, if you are inclined to spend some time other than putting your negative opinions on St Kilda FC and all in its employ, you may care to watch a replay of last Sunday and then repeat that Clark is useless - and can not tackle because he does not have an "AFL ready" body.
