4 Slots Left
Clubs are permitted up to a maximum of 44 players spread over Senior, Rookie A and Rookie B lists
A maximum of 6 Rookie A and 2 Rookie B
The inclusion of Liam O'Connell has filled out St Kilda's rookie B list
The promotion of Liam Stocker and Mason Wood to the Senior list leaves up to 2 slots for Rookie A
The selection of Darcy Wilson and Lance Collard along with the delisting of Daniel McKenzie leaves 34 on the Senior list
Utilising what now is pick 33 will increase the Senior list to 35 and total players to 40.
So what happens to the 4 remaining slots, 2 are available for Rookies A and 2 more Senior players
One could be used on a very late pick in the draft
That would still leave 3 slots
Daniel McKenzie will hope to be able to prove his fitness for one of those, then maybe one slot for a train-on supplemental selection who maybe a delisted free agent
St Kilda having missed on Will Dawson in the draft may look to James Stewart.
One slot may be held back for the mid season rookie draft.
St Kilda had picks 13, 21 and 40 going into the draft, they ended up at 17, 28 and to be announced.
Pick 13 became pick 17 on the night but St kilda let that slip to 18 in return for a future 2024 2nd round pick from GWS.
Pick 21 became pick 28 on the night
Pick 40 was combined with a future 2024 3rd round to become pick 27 but will be pick 33 tonight.
Where pick 40 falls on the night is yet to seen.
At pick 33 St Kilda can go over what's left in the draft, decide their first 3 preferences and get the left on the board by tonight's first 2 picks
Seems like a great move.
St Kilda ended up with player they want and upgraded their 2023 2nd round pick and upgraded a future 2024 3rd rounder to a future 2024 2nd rounder - great trading on the night SOS.

Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Re: 4 Slots Left
I don't think we pick McKenzie up.
Our success in the supplemental period and mid season drafts should have us leave at least 1 spot open there. Do these players need to go on the main list or can they be Rookie A's?
Does our Sandringham Zebras arrangement require us to list one of their players this year? or next?

Re: 4 Slots Left
Why doesn't the VFL have a second draft with 3 picks each after the AFL draft.
The VFL teams can be a strategic part of player development and full of 190+ raw mifdfielders snd 200cm plus beanstalks.

Re: 4 Slots Left
Everyone on the list is now contracted.
I suppose you can still technically delist someone now, but you would have to pay out their contract. But it would free up a list spot though.
(From memory, Robbie Young was cut off 1 year into his original 2 year contract. Pretty sure we just paid him out, and got his list spot back)
