What aspects of coaching worked well today?
Did we match up well against GWS mids and forwards?
Did we go in with the right selections?
Did we set up well at stoppages?
Did we have a plan to stop the orange tsunami when they got going?
Did we fix our entries inside 50, with our clear height advantage with 2 talls in our forward line PLUS Owens and Marshall also drifting forward?
All I can say, is thank f*** we didn't play a team in any sort of good form

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
Match ups no major issues.
General stoppages against a 1 person midfield (Tom Greene) we didn't take advantage. Centre clearances were good.
Don't think they ever "got going"
Entries good. Finishing missed about 5 goals we should have kicked. Clarke, Byrnes and Pou in the last quarter the 3 that come to mind.

I can hear Ross's words - "Every week you get an audit", it's always worth learning from.

Entries Good?
We are bottom 4 in the league for scoring shots per inside 50. So that's not scoring accuracy... it's just opportunity to score and an actual shot on goal

Yep thought our entries were ordinary. A couple ok but some of those bombs looking for Max were a bit embarrassing
As I said earlier, we are a carbon copy of GWS at the moment
Gotta work on the skills, but I’m confident young blokes will

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
So the questions remain unanswered
How did our highly rated senior coach go against the rank novice in Kinsley?
What aspects did our coaching group get right today?

Kingsley?
The senior assistant with years of experience who finally got the top job?
Other than you, who in the football world is denigrating Lyon Mk 2?
Your tirades against anything/everything Lyon does/doesn’t do is becoming tiresome to read.
You really don’t need to post it repeatedly in every thread to make the rest of us understand you despise him.
We get it- you don’t like him

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
The team balance looks right now. Mich Owens definitely is a genuine option as a backup ruck to give Roma a chopout. Having King , Caminiti and Membey/Philippou giving height up forward allows Owens to go onball as required.
The mix of Higgins, Gresham and Butler as the forward smalls is working well. Each offers something different from the others ( Higgins overhead, Butler tackle pressure, Gresham centre bounce clearance ) , and each knows where the goals are.
The back seven structure also looks fine - Stocker and NWM are great additions. NWM’s poise means Hill can push more into the centreline and be more destructive than last season . Paton has been squeezed out and - barring injury- I doubt he will be in our 23 going forward.
Howard is the main issue. He should be the right man for the job, but there is a lot of heart-in-mouth stuff. Is Highmore the option ? Surely not Cordy.
Wood is great on one wing. Byrnes has the other wing but if we are to make an impact in finals I think Billings or a fit. McKenzie have to be there.
The midfield group frustrates in that each of them has been inconsistent- thus forcing Sinclair to go in there as a break-glass solution. Again if we are to impact I would like to see Windhager in the starting 22.

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
I’d be happier with a little more in the way of rotations… especially through the middle. Bothers me that Bytel hasn’t played a full game for ages and Windy has missed too.
Mids have really struggled the last month so I wouldn’t mind mixing it up some more

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
Firstly I have a recollection that Kingsley was an Assistant Coach at St Kilda - among other appointments
Secondly, if you peruse the list of GWS best players from today’s game you will note competition recognised elite players
GWS have a few (haven’t we entertained recruiting some when their Contracts were expiring?)
And they came to play today, on their very average home deck in ordinary conditions in Western Sydney
Yes, there appear some sides not up to standard but GWS is not one
And if you drop your guard against any side in expectation of a result you will be punished
So we take the win and move on
To Hawthorn which side won today by over 100 points
No doubt some issues will be debated because we were shown up in certain areas - by competition leading players
So a good audit focus
To lose Owens was unfortunate but GWS also lost a couple

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
And what I would like to see is Coffield at the level he can play to occupying a back flank with his 191cms and skill set
Plus Billings
We have better depth courtesy of recruiting and particularly drafting which has delivered who it has over recent seasons
We are well positioned
What we do look for is the development of others drafted over the last year or so, starting with Adams, Heath and Peris, to start pressuring
Those 3 all showed a bit today in difficult conditions
So we show patience and we observe

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
Fair questions.
I thought King and Caminiti worked well together. Didn’t seem to get in each other’s way too much.
They adjusted their game to take into account the slippery conditions after quarter time which was good.

Thread after thread you go off on a tanty about the coach/coaching.
I get it - you don't like the coach.
You only started this thread as another swipe at the coach.

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
Scolops, I know you've been champing at the bit to get into RTB all season, but 7-3 makes it difficult, no? Suggest you wait until we lose 2-3 in a row (if it happens), before you launch. Pity your man Ratts just missed out as well.Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 22 May 2023 12:17amwtf are you talking about?Mr Magic wrote: ↑Sun 21 May 2023 9:49pmKingsley?

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
Thought Wilkie/Battle on Toby in the first half was incorrect
Tom Green was a problem- esp in the first half
Otherwise pretty good

I agree. Trouble with the Green(e)s. I thought Webster would go to Toby.
Battle not agile enough, and Wilkie on Greene wasting his intercepting ability.

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
I noticed Paton on Toby toward the end that’s his spot if he plays just lock down.
It was noticeable the cleaner skills of GWS going forward compared to us.
Really need to get more goals from forward entries and time in F50.

Re: What aspects of coaching worked well today?
Was at plenty of stoppages before getting subbed. Rucked some centre bounces and I recall seeing him in a few centre stoppages with Ro rucking.
Stat sheet had him at 1 clearance but was more instrumental than that.
