SOS can't win.
Geez, some reporters are real turds...... That's you, Mitch Cleary

"‘Awkward’ truth behind Stephen Silvagni’s snub of son Jack’s 100-game presentation
More details have come to light about Stephen Silvagni’s snub of son Jack’s footy milestone, including an “awkward” AFL truth.
More details have emerged about why Carlton legend Stephen Silvagni snubbed son Jack’s 100th game presentation.
Jack Silvagni opened the 2023 season playing his 100th game for Carlton in their draw against Richmond on Thursday night, taking a high-flying mark and kicking a goal.
Silvagni, coming off his first full year since 2017, has taken longer than most to reach the milestone, and naturally it would be a proud family moment, with father Stephen as well as grandfather Sergio both Carlton Hall of Famers.
The Silvagnis are synonymous with the Carlton Football Club, and the family have had a strong presence at Princes Park dating back to the early 1950s, with three generations of the family wearing the navy blue No. 1 jumper.
The family links are so strong at Carlton that Stephen Silvagni was the list manager who drafted Jack as a father-son selection in 2015, but Stephen was nowhere to be seen after the game.
Seven’s Mitch Cleary reported the 312-game fullback was invited into the Blues’ rooms after the game for the presentation of son Jack’s 100th game presentation in front of family and friends.
But eyebrows were raised across the league when Stephen didn’t accept the offer, with Jack’s brother Ben responding to Cleary’s tweeted saying: “Can confirm he was really tired and wanted to go home.”
Jack noted in his speech that father Stephen, now the list manager at St Kilda after a tumultuous exit from Carlton in 2019, wasn’t present and opted to stay in the car.
Now Channel 7 AFL reporter Tom Browne has provided more details around the situation, explaining Stephen paid for a box at the MCG for the whole family to watch the game and there is no rift whatsoever between him and Jack.
“No family’s closer in terms of Jack and SOS,” Browne told Triple M.
“They’re absolute beauties. I think SOS had breakfast with Jack this morning and had a late lunch with him yesterday.
“Jack knew that SOS wasn’t going to go to this particular presentation.
“SOS — that’s Stephen — hires a box and their grandma, SOS, and the kids, were all in the box watching Jack last night at the MCG.
“SOS does that at his own cost, so he’s watching the game, there’s no issues there.”
Browne pointed out Stephen was effectively pushed out the door by Carlton in 2019 and given his new role as list manager for rival club St Kilda, it would have been awkward for him to be back in the Blues’ rooms.
He left Carlton following a falling out with club management, with the club releasing a statement claiming that Silvagni’s position as list manager was a conflict of interest given his two sons were at the club.
“The simple truth is that Stephen is the list boss at St Kilda, their recruiting boss,” Browne said.
“He’s in charge of poaching players, and that includes Carlton players like (ruckman Tom) de Koning, and it would have been a bit awkward for him if he’d gone into that environment in that regard.
“And the other truth, and this is my personal opinion, is Carlton forced SOS out, the CEO at the time Cain Liddle did.
“Is there some bad blood? I don’t know but there’s a lot of feeling there in terms of the way he left that still exists to some degree I imagine.
“The plain truth of it is he works for St Kilda, presumably gets paid good money by St Kilda, is in charge of recruiting players for St Kilda.
“There was no win for him going into the rooms. If he went in there he would have been the centre of attention. He didn’t and it created this discussion and I think that’s where it sits.”
Nonetheless, the move not to come into Carlton’s change rooms with Jack took many by surprise, with sports presenter Jim Wilson describing the snub as “disappointing and petulant”.
“Very ordinary from SOS,” he wrote.
SOS refers to Stephen’s nickname, “Son of Serge”.
“Didn’t realise it was other people’s business,” Ben Silvagni said on Twitter.
Responding to another social media user, Ben said “none of us (the family) had a problem with it.”
“I wouldn’t have thought he owes the club anything either,” he added.

Sounds like they started the story hoping to find something, and had to present something so put up this garbage fluff of everyone confirming there's no issues or concerns.

Completely disagree. Petulant by SOS. You’re a legend of the Blues. Any awkwardness is easily handled by maintaining professionalism in your actions when in the rooms. Surely if Roo or Lenny worked at other clubs in list management we would invite them back and if they sat in the car during their son making a speech after playing 100 games for the Saints I’d be disappointed and probably disgusted.

100 games - good achievement in the real world but I wouldn’t be surprised if SOS wasn't that impressed, giving Carltons record over that 100 games. f*** Carlton.

Another nothing story and bringing adverse comments over an everyday event. Millions of people each day chose for multiple reasons not to attend events and its never questioned. We know when SOS was sacked by their current president it was a messy exit, that wasnt acromonious. He is obviously carrying a lot of hurt and resentment. People give their body & sole to football clubs and are often spat out like cattle, whats wrong with SOS remaining true to himself. Im sure SOS will return in his own time, possibly when the current president is gone.
BJ has only returned to our club recently because of RTB, prior to that he was too hurt because of the way he was forced out by Pelchen. Thats life and all too often professional football unfortunately.

Hopefully, SOS gets invited into the Saints room in 5 years, when SOSOS plays his 200th at St.Kilda.

Neither Lenny nor Roo left in far from ideal circumstances. SOS was shafted by the maggot club over his two sons.Moods wrote: ↑Sat 18 Mar 2023 1:12pm Completely disagree. Petulant by SOS. The only one’s being petulant and who need to grow up are the simpletons making all the assumptions without knowing all the facts.
Not judgemental much!
Jim Wilson is a Carlton supporter isn’t he?
He can just STFU.

You know all the facts do you?
The only facts that matter is, he’s got a son who plays for Carlton who just played his 100th game. The club was acknowledging 3 generations of Silvagni’s who had achieved this honour. Steve is a legend of the club. He chose to sit in his car after feeling slighted 2 years ago.
Just as Kevin Bartlett was pathetic at Richmond for carrying a grudge around, so too is SOS. If he’s going to behave like that he’ll be held up for ridicule

Re: SOS can't win.
The F F's take on SOS.
8. Stephen Silvagni’s principles
Everyone always wants a nice red bow tied around everything, but not this time Blues. The Carlton great was chastised for not being in a photograph with his son Jack and the family in the rooms, and instead chose to sit in his car. Well played, SOS. The irony of the Blues inviting SOS to celebrate with Jack and his brothers, when SOS was, in part, ingloriously punted by the club because his sons were on the list, can’t be ignored. Please, it was to be in a photo and we’re sure SOS would have thousands of photos of the family, and probably took a couple on the night anyhow. Clubs can’t throw people out with the trash and then expect them to come waltzing back in when they are invited to sit at the dining table. As someone famous said, if you don’t have principles, what have you got?
Gotta agree with Robbo

That’s quite funny. You’re not commenting because you don’t have all the facts?. When has that stopped anyone ( including you) from commenting on forums/social media? For the record, I completely agree with the blues for punting him once his sons were on the list. As your article that you posted stated, you can’t do both jobs, even if you think you can.

Re: SOS can't win.
But why. SOS wasn't a sole selector was he? List managers don't have a veto/sole say do they, final say is group call? GMs can say no nepotism or perception of nepotism.
Must be hard being FB of the Century and having to be dissed by the hired suits because they can over a confected issue.
Guys that shafted him must gag when its pointed out their current star studded team was assembled by SOS; yeah but yeah but......
And this is the brown bag club.

Not as funny as your misinformed opinion, Moods.
I commented but I did not pass judgment.
No one stopped you from commenting but expect a response when jumping to conclusions and hanging a person without knowing all the details.
You would come across as a “challengeable juror” in a jury selection process.

Re: SOS can't win.
Love it SOS
Kind of ..
This is not family…
Carlton cameras would be all over THEIR SOS at their club..
Rubbing it in…
Pictures of him smiling with Carlton players and officials in the newspapers
They would be lapping it up and milking every last drop
I get the point someone made about , ‘all he need do is maintain professionalism’ yes, but when your face is plastered all over the newspapers in the Carlton rooms with smiling officials who, by the way, will not canon any single player , nor should they, Jack could be on the short end of the stick anytime ..
SOs can’t just attend and refuse photographs!
That would be even worse!
I know it sounds petty,
Family first
Always
Yep
But did Carlton
Come in SOS
You are a St Kilda man.

Re: SOS can't win.
List managers are a fairly influential position at a club. You got two sons on the list. No brainer to me. Dennis Pagan couldn't handle it when his son was at North. As someone above said, Family first. We all look at our kids through rose coloured glasses and do you really think their old man is going to be the person who shatters their dreams of playing AFL footy. I wouldn't take the chance if I was the Blues and he should have immediately dismissed himself once there was such an obvious conflict.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Thu 23 Mar 2023 5:29pmBut why. Anyway, not sure he has the best rep as talent scout if you speak to Blues people. Hope he proves me wrong, because outside the players and the coach, he holds pretty much the most important position in the footy club if we are to go anywhere
