DeGoey
We've copped a fair bit of stick for not landing DeGoey. Pretty harsh to be honest as trying to drag a player out of a club theyre happy with is no easy task.
Even at a local level recruiting blokes is a massive hit and miss.

Curly, it just seems we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t.
The press was annoyed with St.Kilda’s inactivity over the trade period because they want more stories to sell. Most AFL journalists should be draped in clown suits these days

Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Re: DeGoey
The football media is just a bunch of fanboys pretending to be journalists. They get paid a huge amount of money to talk absolute crap and almost none have the ability to think beyond cliches. Listening to people like Dwayne Russell and Mark Robinson makes my stomach churn. And the morons from the public who ring them on their radio shows have a combined IQ of about 10.
You're absolutely right Sainternist. We're damned if we do, damned if we don't. There's been an external narrative about St Kilda for 40 years and the footy journos just trot it out every year, under every situation, because that's all they're capable of. They behave like teenage girls. They fall in love with a coach (Damian Hardwick) or a club (Geelong) and they create their narrative for those clubs and coaches while the going is good, desperately wanting wanting to snuggle up close with the big boys because they think by association they too are at the top of tree.

We did what we said we were going to do going into the trade period , the press can't handle the truth .Sainternist wrote: ↑Fri 14 Oct 2022 2:51pm Curly, it just seems we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

Collingwood were playing hardball all year with the deal they were offering DeGoey so his management used our interest to improve the deal . Only a stupid offer from our club would have gotten him . The press would've wanted this so half way through next year if he's not playing well , they can bang on about what a bad deal it was.

Re: DeGoey
The media didn't go after West Coast or Sydney, who did as little as we did. As for Collingwood, they gave up an all-Australian ruckman and a talented youngster and brought in McStay, who's just a player, Frampton, who's a spud, Hill, who is a fringe half forward who is unlikely to take the place of the current small forwards, and Mitchell, who is high possession- low impact performer coming to the end of his career.
I would rather have kept who they gave away. Is there a net gain? Unlikely.
