Precipitous decline of North Melbourne (pat two)

Post: # 1967244Post shanegrambeau »

Glass half full

St Kilda would have done it…
St Kilda just doesn’t re- sign cos they have no focus or standards
Hardwick was on the brink, won three flags

Half empty
the North board’s spin aside (nonsense about ‘no wholesale changes’), bloody geez, North had better not climb up and pass us like Freo, Collingwood, Carlton have…like the Bulldogs did, not to mention all the teams that remain competitive for decades and entire generational change, Geelong, Sydney

PS..Did you members get told why Ratts’s contract had to be extended RIGT NOW in that letter they sent you?

Yeah the letter said it was because he wears nice slack pants and tucks his shirt in with a leather belt.

Fair enough
So the board figured that his beer gut will expand as further losses mount, and he will no longer be able to tuck it in.
So resign now.

I think he also turns up to meetings with pencil and paper which impresses the board, shows a willingness to write things down.

Being unfunny lol..for a moment…I do wonder whether Ratts had to do a full interview and re-submit game plans, tactics, player appraisals etc., prior to appointment.

After the Brisbane loss (first round after the bye) Max King was interviewed and said the team was "very happy with where we're at at the moment."

And that was after a loss.

A lot of backslapping and champagne flowing after being 8-3, no doubt.

Re-signing the coach in such a chummy environment muust have seemed a no-brainer.

And yes, I fear North will pass us in a couple of years. They had the courage to bottom out and rebuild from the draft.

We've been topping up with high-priced foreign legion players for years now, even though the new CEO claims we're still not aa Top 4 side.

Correct me if I’m wrong

I also think that North are debt free…

We go down that path

Bottom 2
Losing by 10 goals regularly
Players leaving
Can’t attract talent
Being undesirable and irrelevant

We may as well go to TAS because we’d be screwed … if we are not already

We don’t need to bottom out
Just restump

Bring into the side

3 draft picks in the first two rounds of the draft
2 Free Agents
1 Trade

Delist dead wood
Trade a couple of players with some value
Rookie Hannebery

North have at least had some glory years before their demise .We on the other hand have been the brides maids . I could actually handle the fact my team is dying & there is not much hope for the future if we had won a few flags but unfortunately that hasn't happened . North & St.Kilda are both dependant on life lines from the AFL & ATM there is no indication the AFL is going to cull , merge or relocate teams but it is only a matter of time .Stay relevant or you will be the next Fitzroy

Lots keen to write off North but they're a good chance to secure Clarko or Adam Simpson, maybe even RL.

Another Number one draft pick this year, maybe a priority pick as well.

The only way is up.

Meanwhile we'll continue treading water, hovering around 7-10, glorying in medicority.

Great post, totally agree up until the last line.

Surely you are taking the piss?

15 average games in 4 seasons and you want to waste a place on the list on Hannebery, with no knowledge around whether the game has passed him by or not.

Rookie Hannebery
i quite like the idea

may as play it out to the bitter (or sweet-ish) end

definitely a risk worth taking
(if he's a possible player)

Don’t speak to soon.

Paddy McCartin could ball Australian at this rate….
Next Hannas is at North tearing* it up.

*not the hamstring

And we will have made Franklin a 3 year deal at $750 per year

There is no doubt over whether DH can play

There are serious doubts over a kid taken in the rookie draft!

There is no doubt Hannebery COULD play 6 years ago.

There are massive doubts over whether Hannebery can ever get on the field again and if he does whether the game has passed him by or not.

If yo want to give a contract to a guy who has played 15 average games in 4 seasons and can’t get on the park well that’s your opinion.

Yes most rookies don’t make it, but I’d rather punt on another Marshall, Sinclair or Wilkie than a broken down has been like Hannebery.

Let’s cut our losses and move on, he’s had 4 years to lift training standards 😁

At least we've got Hanners driving training standards.

North don't have that.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Honestly, any comparative reference to North on here is foolishly defeatist.
We have been buggered up by injuries to Hayes, DMac, Coffield, Howard, Owens. Give us first choice 22 fit we can beat any team. Trouble is the boys seem to have forgotten the high of winning regularly.

Crueled by injuries? You must be joking!
Very lucky this year in the injury department.
