Jims father in law Ray Free is my wife's step Grandfather . He was a pilot in WW2 & after the war got pilots licence at times flew Jim from Quamby to Melbourne for Saints games . Ray was a big Saints fan & a fantatic bloke as well but unfortunately he has gone to god as well . RIP Jim

Re: Vale Jim Wallis.
An extremely good footballer, influential in the Saints rise to power in the early to mid '60s. Any team with Morrow, Ditterich and the luxury of Wallis in a foward pocket would be hard to beat. Add Stewart and Baldock and we were near unbeatable. So sorry to hear Big Jim has died. Ultimately his loss to the Saints in early 1965 gave opportunities to other new recruits - Kevin Neale and Barry Breen- to make names for themselves.
Saint supporter since '62
